Alien: Romulus sequel seems more and more likely to happen
As a lifelong fan of the Alien franchise, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that another installment is on its way! The 2024 movie, Alien: Romulus, left me on the edge of my seat with its nail-biting suspense and captivating characters. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Rain and Andy’s story since the credits rolled, so hearing that they’ll likely be at the center of the sequel has me practically jumping for joy!
It’s hardly unexpected news, but it appears that the successful movie of 2024 is strongly expected to have a follow-up. We were already aware that the Alien series was set to continue with the upcoming FX show, Alien: Earth, due in 2025. However, as per Fox executive Steve Asbell, we can look forward to another big-screen project in the near future as well.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell shared that they are brainstorming a sequel concept, but no contract has been signed as of now for “Alien: Romulus” director Fede Alvarez to come back on board. However, Asbell expressed optimism that he will be involved in the project.
It’s understandable since Alvarez had discussed potential sequel concepts with the same media outlet before, focusing on Yvaga and whether it would be portrayed as a utopia or a source of terror. Most likely, he intends to depict it as the latter.
Furthermore, Abell specifically acknowledges Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, the talented actors portraying Rain and Andy, for contributing significantly to the movie’s massive success. It remains to be seen where their characters will head next, implying that they might take center stage in the upcoming Alien film.
We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is.
Towards the conclusion of “Alien: Romulus,” Rain and Andy were seen boarding their ship, destined for Yvaga, following a close call with a fearsome creature called The Offspring, which they successfully vanquished. Given this, it’s reasonable to anticipate that future installments in the series might delve into the events that unfold upon their arrival at their destination.
The Predator series continues to thrive, with Elle Fanning’s film “Predator: Badlands” set for release in theaters in 2025. Furthermore, Asbell hinted at another Predator movie coming out in 2025, but has kept specific details under wraps for now.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but wonder if we might witness another thrilling battle between the Alien and Predator species on the big screen in the future. According to insider reports, it seems quite promising, with industry expert Asbell hinting at its likelihood. He emphasized that any potential film would need to develop “organically,” meaning they haven’t reached the stage where production plans are set just yet.
For now, fans can revisit Alien: Romulus at home. The movie is available to rent or buy on PVOD.
