Alien: Romulus sequel gets an exciting update

For enthusiasts of Fede Álvarez’s “Alien: Romulus“, there’s exciting talk about potential sequel concepts that the director himself is brainstorming.

Although a sequel for “Romulus” has not been approved as of now, Álvarez affirmed that he along with his co-writer, Rodo Sayagues, are exploring possibilities to create another film centering around the character played by Cailee Spaeny named Rain.

“Rodo and I are working on that right now,” the filmmaker told Empire.

We’re thrilled about its potential. We’ve nearly covered all the aspects I’ve been eager to discover in Romulus, revisiting sights I hadn’t seen in a long time. From here on, we venture into unexplored territories.

Álvarez mentioned that he finds it thrilling to delve into characters familiar from the film “Romulus,” and venture into an unexplored corner of the “Alien” series. He’s eager to uncover new territories and reveal sights that have yet to be seen.

In August 2024, we can expect the arrival of “Alien: Romulus,” a new installment in the Alien series, which takes place between the original film from 1979, titled “Alien,” and its first sequel, “Aliens,” released in 1986.

I’m thrilled to share that the new movie now available on Disney+ (as of January 15) delivers some classic Álvarez gruesomeness, all while maintaining a strong connection to the mythos originally established by Ridley Scott.

In the home release version, Romulus made adjustments to one of its CGI elements that sparked much debate.

In the theater release, the late actor Ian Holm, who passed away in 2020, makes a brief appearance as a dismembered science officer character named Rook from the film Alien. This cameo left some viewers perplexed due to the extensive use of CGI. However, director Álvarez has confirmed that the home video version will reduce some of the computer-generated effects and instead utilize an animatronic figure of Holm.

The animatronic figure of Ian Holm, created by Shane Mahan, was based on a head mold from “The Lord of the Rings” films, and it was the only one ever made, according to the director. For the home entertainment release, we decided to go back to using more puppetry. It significantly improves the quality.
