Alien: Romulus sequel confirmed: Here’s what we know so far
As a lifelong fan of the Alien franchise, I found Alien: Romulus to be a thrilling and terrifying addition to the series that perfectly captured the essence of Ridley Scott’s original vision. Having watched every installment multiple times, it was refreshing to see a new crew face the horrors of space in a way that felt fresh yet familiar.
Earlier this year, “Alien: Romulus” was launched, successfully revitalizing a franchise that had been faltering. This installment, placed between Ridley Scott’s original “Alien” (1979) and James Cameron’s “Aliens” (1986), presented viewers with a fresh crew of young space travelers who stumbled upon the hostile creatures while exploring an abandoned spaceship.
Under the guidance of director Fede Alvarez, the movie titled “Alien: Romulus” stayed true to the horror foundation of the franchise, skillfully linking with the six previous films while also introducing fresh and innovative elements. Not every decision made by Alvarez resonated with me personally, but I appreciate his courage in steering the series towards a daring path.
On the movie review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film “Alien: Romulus” received an impressive 80% rating from critics and 85% approval among regular viewers. Not only did it receive positive feedback, but “Alien: Romulus” also proved to be a commercial success, earning a global box office total of $350.8 million.
With fresh excitement breathing into the Alien series, you might be curious about what’s coming up next. We can confirm that an Alien FX series is in the pipeline. Known as Alien: Earth, it takes place three decades before the events of the 1979 Alien film.
It’s been confirmed that there are plans underway for another Alien film titled Alien: Romulus! According to 20th Century Fox Studios president Steve Asbell, they are actively developing a concept for a sequel.
We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on.
It seems that the plot will carry on with the tale of characters Rain and Andy, with David Jonsson’s exceptional portrayal of Andy, a robot transformed into Rain’s surrogate brother by her late father, being a highlight in the movie.
Despite the Alien: Romulus tale wrapping up, the future for characters Rain and Andy is yet uncertain, particularly concerning Weyland-Yutani. The movie ended with their entry into cryostasis en route to Yvaga, leaving us wondering what will happen next.
