As a dedicated gamer and longtime fan of the Alien franchise, I’m both excited and intrigued by the latest addition to the series, Alien: Romulus. The confirmation of its runtime, coming in at 119 minutes, is just another piece of the puzzle that has me counting down the days until its release next month.
Alien: Romulus has confirmed its runtime ahead of its release next month.
In the upcoming installment of the sci-fi series, which is the next addition to the franchise, the duration has been verified by the British Board of Film Classification, and it will last approximately 1 hour and 59 minutes.
As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming movie “Romulus,” featuring the talented Cailee Spaeny, is set to unfold during the time gap between the original “Alien” and its sequel “Aliens.”

According to director Fede Alvarez, the new movie occurs a few years following the events of the initial film.
He remarked, “Perhaps I’ve been told that so often because I mentioned it myself, but I’m unsure of when it occurs, between the first and second instances.”
“I agree with that assessment, but to me it feels like a continuation of the first one, unfolding after its events. It’s almost as if we’re witnessing the offspring of those two movies coming to life, visually, aesthetically, and narratively speaking.”
When writing the film, the director confesses he frequently referenced website Xenopedia to ensure adherence to the franchise’s established lore.

He made a great effort to honor the films’ established rules, and even more so when considering additional sources like novels. However, it’s challenging as inconsistencies emerge within the same universe upon expanding the scope of consideration.
I’m grateful for Xenopedia and similar resources, which were constantly accessible on my laptop as I wrote. Whenever I needed to double-check facts like “In what era were those androids created?”, I would simply turn to them. If you’re curious about something, rest assured the answers can be found there, thanks to someone taking the time to write detailed information.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that along with Spaeny, the upcoming movie will feature an impressive lineup of talented actors. Isabela Merced, who brings Madame Web to life, will join us. Similarly, David Jonsson from Industry and Archie Renaux hailing from Shadow and Bone are also part of this star-studded cast. Not forgetting Spike Fearn from Aftersun and Aileen Wu known for her role in Skin. Each one adds depth and intrigue to the project.
Alien: Romulus is released in cinemas on August 16.
