Alien: Romulus lands fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating after first reviews

As a seasoned gamer and movie buff with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of sci-fi films, from the original ‘Alien’ to its various sequels, remakes, and reboots. So when it comes to ‘Alien: Romulus’, let me tell you that I’ve been there, done that, and got the t-shirt (or rather, the facehugger-infested jumpsuit).

The sci-fi film, “Romulus,” has recently received a new rating on Rotten Tomatoes before its theater premiere on the 16th of August.

The newest science fiction series by director Fede Álvarez, known for his chilling 2013 reboot of “Evil Dead,” has a rating of 83% from film critics on a review aggregating site.

Among all Alien films, Romulus holds the third highest ranking, following closely behind Aliens (94%) and the original Alien (93%).

20 years post the occurrences depicted in Alien, Alien: Romulus focuses on Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and fellow cosmic explorers as they embark on a salvage expedition to an abandoned space station. There, they encounter hostile organisms that pose a significant threat.

Critics have commended Romulus for staying true to the initial films in the series and Álvarez’s skill at creating disturbing body horror. However, they also pointed out that the latest film appears unoriginal. In our three-star appraisal, Digital Spy labeled Romulus as “loyal to a fault.”
