Alien: Earth Teases Terrifying Practical Effects and Intense Space Creatures

This summer, one of the scariest and dangerous space threats is expected to arrive home, and two cast members have been hinting at what fans of the Ridley Scott-inspired franchise have been eagerly waiting to learn. With the series reviving on the big screen with “Alien: Resurrection”, Hulu and FX’s TV show situated in the same universe has built up quite a reputation, and it might not only meet these expectations but exceed them.

2120 is the setting for the story “Earth: Alien,” where various corporations, including Weyland-Yutani, have transformed the world with technology. In this era, humans, cyborgs, and AI-controlled synthetics coexist. The development of technology eventually leads to the creation of hybrids – robots that possess human consciousness. A tragic accident occurs when a Weyland-Yutani spaceship crashes onto Earth, releasing lethal extraterrestrial creatures.

Sydney Chandler takes on a leading role in the hybrid “Wendy,” joining Timothy Oliphant and Babou Ceesay as one of the newest female leads in the franchise. In an interview with TVLine, Chandler explained why the new series adheres to the “Alien” guidelines when it comes to depicting its creatures on screen.

It was fantastic having Cameron, our Xenomorph actor, physically present, making the experience truly mind-blowing. His costume was incredibly terrifying. The nights we shot added to the thrill since fatigue can make encountering an alien particularly unsettling – it definitely had an impact on us.

Can ‘Alien: Earth’ Be Another Strong Entry in the Franchise?

During the same interview, Chandler and Ceesay both agreed that the upcoming movie will include a significant amount of the iconic “slobbering, growling” alien danger that has been a staple of the franchise for 45 years. Moreover, Ceesay hinted at something exciting for fans: the film won’t rely on jump scares to create fear; instead, it will deliver a more substantial and satisfying experience.

I’ve watched several episodes, yet there were instances where I found myself holding my breath in anticipation, as if bracing myself for something to happen. It’s an exciting show that I believe many will enjoy, but it’s not just about jump scares; it’s also filled with tense moments.

Yet, it’s worth noting that Chandler has consistently emphasized that she doesn’t view herself as stepping into the shoes of the original character, Ellen Ripley, from the Alien franchise. Recently, Chandler expressed this sentiment by saying:

It’s not something I dare attempt – comparing myself to Ripley, as it simply can’t be done. However, I truly hope the audience comes to admire Wendy just as much as I cherish her… She is undoubtedly my most beloved role I’ve ever embodied.

As fans eagerly anticipate the launch of Alien: Earth, you can catch up on the entire Alien series by streaming it on Hulu or Disney+ (availability depends on your location). This lineup even includes last year’s Alien: Romulus. A fantastic way to gear up for the franchise’s small-screen premiere is to revisit its past, good and bad, with a marathon of some of the best – and perhaps not so great – installments from this legendary sci-fi saga.
