Sydney Chandler is thrilled to be back for season two of Alien: Earth, though she’s still in the dark about what the writers have planned for her character, Wendy, and the Lost Boys.
I was really captivated by Chandler’s performance in Noah Hawley’s Alien series. She played Wendy, which was a fascinating character – the very first of these human-synthetic hybrids created by the Prodigy Corporation. The story behind Wendy was that her consciousness came from a young girl named Marcy who was seriously ill. The show followed Wendy and the other hybrids – they called themselves ‘The Lost Boys’ – as they tried to figure out what happened with the USCSS Maginot, a research vessel that crashed after a deep space mission. It was a really cool exploration of what it means to be human when you’re mixing people with technology, and all the creepy creatures they found along the way!
While promoting her film Anima at SXSW, actress Chandler was asked about the progress of Alien: Earth season 2. She jokingly admitted she doesn’t have much information about the new season’s plot, saying she’s constantly asking creator Noah Hawley and the team if she can get a sneak peek at the script.
She also mentioned that Hawley is great at telling riddles that are fun to solve. However, Chandler is really looking forward to filming the next season of Alien: Earth, especially since they’re going to London – her favorite city in the world – to shoot at Pinewood Studios.
As a movie and TV fan, I’m completely blown away by the history and world-building of this project. Honestly, I have no clue where they’re going with my character, Wendy, but she’s a blast to play! I really trust the showrunner, Noah, to take us all on a crazy ride. His writing is just phenomenal – so clever and layered, it’s a joy to work with. I’m genuinely excited to see what happens next, I really am!
Chandler shared her wishes for Wendy and the Lost Boys in season 2 of Alien: Earth, saying she’d like to see Wendy interact more with the Lost Boys. She felt her character was quite isolated in the first season and really enjoys working with the actors who play them. She described Wendy as fiercely independent and is eager to have more scenes with them in the future.
Chandler is very interested in seeing how Wendy changes after experiencing a loss of innocence. He wonders if she’ll embrace her human side now that she and the Lost Boys are in charge of Neverland, or if she’ll become cold and detached. He wants to challenge Wendy, to see how she reacts under pressure, and admits he doesn’t know what the creator, Hawley, has planned for her, but he’s confident it will be compelling.
Playing a young character grappling with intense emotions – like sudden shifts between feeling hot and cold – was really frightening to portray. There’s a lot of anger within her, and I was eager to explore what truly scared her and how she’d react when pushed to her limits. I wanted to see her vulnerable, especially when facing both the creatures and the adults around her. It was interesting to show her in a difficult position and discover how she’d handle it, because ultimately, she ends up okay. Filming those scenes was a blast – I thought she was so much more confident than I am! I’m not entirely sure where the story is going, but I have faith in it and I think it’ll be really enjoyable.
Chandler seemed unsure about the direction of season 2 of Alien: Earth, especially after executive producer Dana Gonzales shared a photo from Pinewood Studios suggesting production was starting. It’s possible Chandler was being cautious with any information she shared about the new season, as Disney is famously protective of its secrets for major franchises like this one.
Good news for fans of Alien: Earth – season 2 is back in production! While it will probably be about two years before we see new episodes – a common timeframe for many shows today, especially those with a lot of practical effects and CGI – things are looking positive. If filming isn’t interrupted again (like it was last year with the SAG-AFTRA strike), season 2 could be finished by December, potentially leading to a premiere in late 2027.
Honestly, I was really thrilled with how things ended for Wendy in the first season of Alien: Earth. She was in such a powerful position! Seeing her manage to lock up Kavalier, Kirsh, Dame Sylvia, Atom, and Morrow was satisfying, but the best part was that she still had control of two Xenomorphs. She basically declared she and her family were going to take over the island, and as a fan, it was awesome to see her finally seize that power!
Interestingly, as Chandler mentioned, the show Alien: Earth hasn’t revealed much about Wendy’s fears yet. The first season explored the fears and emotional struggles of the Lost Boys – especially Lily Newmark’s character, Nibs, who dealt with past trauma. Meanwhile, Adarsh Gourav’s Slightly and Jonathan Ajayi’s Smee provided comic relief by being afraid of almost everything.
Though it’s unclear what the future holds for her character, it seems likely that Wendy will face significant challenges in the second season of Alien: Earth. The first season concluded with both Yutani forces arriving on the island and the Ocellus creature taking over Arthur’s body, creating multiple dangers for her. Additionally, given the strained relationship between Joe and Wendy, the show’s creator will probably delve into the complex dynamic between the actors playing Chandler and Lawler, exploring the ideas she has for their characters.
