Alien: Earth Gets Unsurprising Verdict From Ripley Actor Sigourney Weaver

Recently, Sigourney Weaver voiced her opinions about “Alien: Earth,” the initial live-action TV venture within the Alien series. Notably, Weaver rose to fame as an actress playing the character Ellen Ripley in the 1979 film Alien.

In two films following her initial appearance, Sigourney Weaver reprised her iconic role: “Aliens” released in 1986 and “Alien 3” in 1992. Later on, she also provided the voice for the character in the 2014 video game “Alien: Isolation”. Interestingly, Weaver’s performance in “Aliens” earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in 1987.

Sigourney Weaver is ‘really enjoying’ Alien: Earth

At the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, I had a chance to attend a spectacular event hosted by PEOPLE/EW and Shutterstock Studio. There, I met Sigourney Weaver, who shared some exciting news about Noah Hawley’s Alien Earth project. In her own words, she expressed that she is truly relishing every moment working on this intriguing project. As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I can hardly wait to see the outcome!

The actress remarked that “what truly impresses me is how the story goes beyond being merely an Alien film. To her, it explores the state of our world and its dominant forces a century from now, and she finds it incredibly insightful.

I was thrilled to witness the premiere of Weaver’s latest masterpiece, “Dust Bunny”, during TIFF’s Midnight Madness on Monday. This action-packed horror-thriller brings together a stellar cast, including Mads Mikkelsen, David Dastmalchian, Rebecca Henderson, and Sophie Sloan. US theaters will have the pleasure of showing this chilling adventure starting in December!

Pondering over Hawley’s work in Alien: Earth, Weaver expressed high praise for the innovative idea behind “the creation of new beings derived from children.” This probably refers to entities such as Wendy, a hybrid character like Sydney Chandler’s, who was made by transferring the consciousness of a dying child into an artificial body.

Weaver noted how extraordinary everything is, with construction continuing non-stop.”

The person named Weaver commented on the impressive nature of all the activities happening around them, which were consistently being built upon.

In Weaver’s opinion, the new terrifying monsters and creatures in Alien: Earth make it hard to believe that one is watching a television show, as she expressed, “He’s bringing in some scary monsters! It’s almost like having too many problems with the alien, we need fifty more.” Weaver couldn’t help but be amazed, exclaiming, “I can’t believe I’m just watching TV!

Alien: Earth airs on FX and FX on Hulu weekly on Tuesdays.
