Following an earlier announcement this year, fans found themselves in disagreement regarding the launch of a Clueless TV series on Peacock – as Alicia Silverstone was set to reprise her legendary character, Cher Horowitz.

According to The Guardian, Silverstone will not just be reprising her role as Cher, but she’ll also serve as one of the executive producers for the upcoming project.

The upcoming series will be penned by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, two creators recognized for their work on previous hit shows like Gossip Girl and The O.C.

A new addition to our team is Jordan Weiss, who has just completed work on the 2025 Disney sequel titled ‘Freakier Friday’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amy Heckerling, famously known for directing the 1995 cult favorite, will be rejoining the project and serving as an executive producer on the upcoming Peacock sequel series as well.

Other cast and plot details have yet to disclosed with the show still in its development stages. 

On social platforms, people promptly expressed their varied perspectives about the Clueless series, as some agreed while others disagreed.

One person wrote, “If she’s involved, it’s great but we really shouldn’t mess with this classic,” and another said, “Let’s stop making more sequels.” In simpler terms, both are expressing their opinions that they prefer original content or the involvement of a specific person, rather than additional sequels or modifications to a classic.

A supporter expressed, ‘I think it’s essential for them to keep their hands off this timeless piece,’ and one X user wrote, ‘Even with Alicia involved, it could potentially be decent; however, Peacock has not shown great skill in producing new series.’

One user expressed their disapproval by saying, “Why are there so many ’90s-00s sequels? I don’t think they’re necessary!” Another user shared similar sentiments and said, “I’m worried that these might ruin it.

One user posted, “As a kid, I adored this film. But now I wonder, can we make unique movies instead?” The other commented, “I’m undecided, but I’ll definitely check it out regardless.

As an avid fan, I too share the enthusiasm for the upcoming sequel series, and I can’t wait to secure my ‘peacock subscription’.

One person chimed in, expressing genuine enthusiasm. They remarked that despite having just one film to their credit, they had never seen Alicia in any other project. They then jokingly referred to someone as ‘the bag queen’.

In an earlier conversation with Vogue back in 2023, Silverstone shared her thoughts about the character of Cher, who was a well-off high school student from Beverly Hills, as she looked back on that time.

The actress expressed that she found Cher to seem overly focused on material possessions and off-putting. Furthermore, she admitted that Cher was quite irritating, to put it bluntly.

‘Initially, I thought she lacked warmth and compassion, but as I got to know her better, I discovered that she was full of kindness and affection.’

In the realm of cinema, I found myself fortunate to be part of the audience when “Clueless” graced our theater screens for the first time. Critics were quick to praise its charm, and it didn’t take long for the box office to echo their sentiments. On a budget of merely $12 million, this film miraculously amassed an impressive $88 million in revenue.

Regarding the intense fame surge Alicia encountered following the movie’s success, she openly acknowledged it as quite overwhelming.

In an unexpected turn, the actress from “The Crush” stated, “I hadn’t anticipated the response we received. It was overwhelming, and frankly, it made me hesitant about acting for a period. Instead, it fueled my passion for activism even more.

Over time, I rediscovered my passion for acting, yet during that period, I was unaware of the challenges that lay ahead.
