Alice in the Palace” Spin-Off of “Raven’s Home

I was excitedly awaiting the debut of a spin-off series based on one of my favorite Disney original shows, but unfortunately, Disney has decided to halt its production after filming the pilot episode. Despite this setback, Disney Channel remains committed to creating and broadcasting fresh, original content, which has been their forte for many decades. Interestingly, they’ve even resurrected characters from shows that originally aired in the ’90s and 2000s, giving classic franchises a modern makeover.

As a devoted fan, it’s with a tinge of disappointment that I share the news: “Alice in the Palace,” the anticipated spin-off from “Raven’s Home,” has been officially called off by Disney. This show was meant to carry forward the captivating narrative we loved from both “That’s So Raven” and its sequel, but alas, Disney opted to halt production on this upcoming series, despite a pilot episode already being filmed.

As a devoted fan who adored portraying Nia Baxter-Carter in “Raven’s Home,” I, Mykal-Michelle Harris, have some bittersweet news to share. Regrettably, Disney decided not to proceed with production beyond the pilot episode that we filmed. To mark this memorable occasion, I took to Instagram to express my gratitude towards the exceptional cast and crew for their unwavering support and collaboration during this journey.

I’ve been overwhelmed by all the questions about my pilot: I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL who contributed to the project. Not only did I have the privilege of portraying the main character, but also the unique experience of acting alongside myself as two different characters (Alice and Clementine). Additionally, I was honored to serve as a producer on this production. Making ‘Alice in the Palace’ was truly a dream come true for me. Unfortunately, Disney Channel opted for a different approach that did not involve our show.

In May 2024, it was initially revealed that “Alice in the Palace” was set to premiere, following the news that “Raven’s Home” would be concluding after six successful seasons. The storyline centered around Nia Baxter-Carter, portrayed by Harris, as she moved back to England after the events depicted in “Raven’s Home.

Raven-Symoné, famously known for her roles in That’s So Raven and Raven’s Home, was slated to receive executive producer credits on the series. Additionally, she had plans to direct the Disney Channel spin-off as part of a multiyear agreement she struck with Disney Branded Television.

Other Recent Disney Channel Cancellations

Primos

Another cherished Disney Channel show, titled “Primos,” met an unfortunate end when Disney decided to discontinue it after its first season. The initial season, comprising 28 episodes, graced our screens from the latter part of 2024 through early 2025. However, sad news followed as Disney announced that “Primos” would not be renewed for a second season.

The entire first season of Primos can still be streamed on Disney+.

Hailey’s On It!

Hailey’s On It!” is yet another original series from Disney Channel, which unfortunately didn’t make it past its first season. The story revolves around a 14-year-old character named Hailey Banks, who was given a mission by someone from the future to create an invention capable of reversing global warming.

The TV show titled “Hailey’s On It!” started airing on June 8, 2023. However, it was unfortunately terminated on October 2, 2024, right after the release of its first season. Unlike “Primos,” “Hailey’s On It!” cannot be found streaming on Disney+.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur

The series titled “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” which originated from Marvel Comics, met an unfortunate end at Disney’s hands. Unlike some of Disney’s more recent cancellations, this one had already enjoyed a two-season run before being officially discontinued.

Both seasons of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are available to stream on Disney+.
