Alice Evans leaves court on the final day of her trial with ex-husband Ioan Gruffudd after he secured huge win by getting his domestic violence restraining order renewed

Alice Evans appeared happy leaving court in Los Angeles on Friday, following the conclusion of her trial with her former husband, Ioan Gruffudd.

The 57-year-old British-American actress finished the day wearing a black blouse with polka dots and a long, flowing blue skirt.

Ioan, 52, quickly smiled at his lawyers as he left the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, but otherwise kept his expression neutral.

The former couple, who are currently in a legal battle, went to court to finalize details regarding alimony and child support after their long marriage.

Just yesterday, Alice appeared stressed while leaving court in Los Angeles after her ex-husband, Ioan, won a recent decision in their difficult legal dispute.

A judge decided that morning to extend the domestic violence restraining order protecting Alice for another five years.

Alice left the courtroom with her head up, but she seemed stressed, tightening her lips and carrying her handbag over her shoulder.

For her day in court, she wore mostly black, but brightened her outfit with a patterned midi skirt and a touch of red lipstick.

Throughout the trial’s conclusion, Alice appeared calm and quiet as Judge Michael Convey revealed his decision. Ioan, the actor from Fantastic Four, who was seated across the room, showed little reaction as well. Both declined to speak with the Daily Mail following the judge’s ruling.

During the first days of the trial, which began last week, Ioan described how Alice had harassed and abused him and his wife, actress Bianca Wallace, online for years. This led them to successfully obtain a three-year restraining order against Alice in 2022.

On Wednesday, Alice admitted in court that she had filled social media with hurtful and untrue posts about her ex-husband and his new wife, and she apologized to both of them.

She expressed deep shame and regret to the court, and promised Judge Convey she would no longer engage in online insults or negativity.

Judge Convey wasn’t convinced by her apologies, pointing out that she had repeatedly broken the original restraining order. This order required her to stay at least 100 feet away from Ioan and Bianca and to refrain from making negative posts about them online.

On Wednesday, the judge agreed to extend the restraining order against the Welsh actor. After reviewing evidence from the seven-day trial, he explained that Alice had deliberately and repeatedly attacked Ioan and Bianca with a harsh and damaging smear campaign.

Ioan testified that Alice’s threatening behavior made him fear for the safety of himself and his daughter, Bianca. He also stated that her abusive pattern cut him off from his children. Furthermore, Alice’s promise to relentlessly pursue him and damage his career put his children’s financial security at risk.

Ioan and Alice separated at the beginning of 2021 and their divorce became final in 2023. Since then, they’ve been involved in a difficult dispute regarding finances and their two daughters, Ella, 16, and Elsie, 12. Ioan married Bianca last April, and they welcomed their daughter, Mila, in November.

Judge Convey was especially concerned by an incident that occurred in front of the children. Alice reportedly yelled at Ioan, and threatened to subject him to the same public scrutiny and negative portrayal faced by Amber Heard. She also told her daughters to inform her if their father ever made them feel uncomfortable.

The judge ruled this behavior was harassment, recalling a previous instance where Alice publicly revealed Bianca’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which caused Bianca significant distress. He described it as emotional abuse and a form of coercive control.

After Alice expressed regret in court for harassing her ex-husband and his new wife, Judge Convey questioned whether her apology was genuine, stating, ‘I’m not convinced it’s true remorse, but it’s a good start.’

He admitted Alice’s online behavior has improved – it’s not as aggressive or hateful as before. However, he doesn’t believe she’s fully taken responsibility for her actions.

The judge considered making the restraining order permanent, but ultimately extended it for five years. He stated that Alice needs to seek therapy, and cautioned her that breaking the order could result in criminal charges.

Alice said she and Ioan haven’t seen their daughters for two years, and he encouraged them to work together as parents so he could be involved in their lives again.

I was at court on Wednesday, and honestly, it was awkward. Alice showed up in a black jacket with this really pretty pink and white patterned skirt, but she completely avoided talking about the judge’s decision. Ioan, who’s been wearing a suit and tie throughout the whole trial, didn’t say a word either. They both just seemed determined to keep everything to themselves.

Ioan’s lawyer, Joseph Langlois, told the Daily Mail that this is a first step for Alice to get her life back on track.

The judge offered her helpful guidance, and I’m optimistic she’ll make positive changes and get her life back on track.

Langlois and Janina Verano, the attorney for Alice, each gave closing arguments – Langlois in favor of renewing the restraining order, and Verano against it.

Langlois explained to the court that to extend a protective order, there must be a genuine concern that the person it protects will be abused again.

He stated that Alice had repeatedly broken the restraining order against her, so many times that he’d lost track.

Alice’s harmful actions put Ioan, Bianca, and their baby at risk of physical harm and emotional distress. She also deliberately tried to harm Ioan financially and ruin his professional life.

Langlois explained that Bianca received death threats – stemming from Alice’s harmful social media posts – targeting both her and her three-month-old baby. He expressed concern that an unstable follower of Alice, influenced by her content, might act on those threats and physically harm Bianca.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen firsthand how unresolved emotional pain can manifest in incredibly damaging ways. In this particular case, we’re looking at a situation where a woman, Alice, engaged in five years of abusive behavior – from 2021 to 2025 – fueled by a deep and consuming need for revenge stemming from her divorce. It’s a really sad illustration of how unprocessed feelings can lead to years of harmful actions.

Ioan and Bianca are understandably worried Alice will keep acting as she has, given her repeated disregard for the restraining order.

He explained that Alice can’t fix the harm she’s caused. Her offensive comments online are permanent and publicly visible.

Langlois dismissed Alice’s apology last week, saying it didn’t seem genuine and wasn’t sufficient to demonstrate she’d stopped harassing Ioan and Bianca.

Alice doesn’t seem genuinely sorry for her abusive behavior. She continues to deny what she did and offer excuses, and she hasn’t made any effort to change her ways.

In court, Alice’s lawyer, Verano, explained that Alice began harassing Ioan online in 2021 because she was feeling isolated and going through a divorce. He stated she was just coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic when this began.

When Ioan started dating Bianca, any chance of getting back together with him disappeared. “She was completely heartbroken and lost control,” Verano explained.

However, her lawyer explained that Alice has changed significantly and is now focused on the future.

Verano assured the court that the abusive messages from Alice had ceased. She stated that Alice had also deactivated her Twitter account and that there were no current threats.

She explained that although Alice has been sharing her experiences on social media lately, it’s not to upset Ioan. Alice is behaving differently now than she used to.

Alice received a restraining order in August 2022 that has made it difficult for her to work and travel, according to Verano. She explained to the court that Alice has lost jobs as a result of the order. Additionally, whenever Alice flies to the USA with her daughters, they are always held for questioning at the airport, which causes the girls to worry she will be arrested.

She explained that extending the restraining order – which forces Alice to stay at least 100 feet away from Ioan – would force her daughters to decide whether to have their mother or father present at important events like school graduations and family gatherings.

Verano asked the judge to reject Ioan’s request to extend the restraining order, stating that ‘Alice is maturing and improving.’

The judge’s decision on Wednesday concludes the initial part of what was predicted to be a nine-day court case. This week, the remaining proceedings will focus on disagreements over child and spousal support between the couple, who were married for over 20 years.

Alice says she’s struggling financially and is asking the court to require her ex-husband to increase the $1,500 monthly spousal support and the $3,000 monthly child support payments he currently makes.

Ioan maintains that their girls have been ‘poisoned and alienated’ against him by their mother.

Okay, so here’s the situation: my client is seeking to end his spousal support payments. He feels strongly that this is justified because of ongoing domestic abuse he’s experienced from his ex-wife, Alice, and her repeated disregard for the restraining order that’s in place. He also believes he’s already paid significantly more than he should have – we’re looking at almost $400,000 over the appropriate amount – and wants to address that imbalance.
