Alexandra Burke speaks out about her hidden health battle and how she managed to 'completely cure' herself after giving up 'unhealthy habits'

As an ardent admirer of Alexandra Burke, I find her journey truly inspiring and relatable. Her courage to openly discuss her health battle with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is commendable, especially considering the stigma often associated with such conditions.

As a die-hard admirer, I couldn’t help but be moved by Alexandra Burke’s courageous revelation about her secret health journey. Remarkably, she shares that she has miraculously managed to heal herself from… well, I can hardly wait to learn more about her inspiring story!

2021 found me, the overjoyed victor of The X Factor, learning I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) – a familiar affliction impacting our digestive tracts.

It causes symptoms like stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. These tend to come and go over time, and can last for days, weeks or months at a time.

Alexandra shared with the Daily Star that her IBS is fully healed and thriving. Previously, she lacked many healthy practices due to her fear of IBS, but she has since made a significant change. Now, as a mother of two, Alexandra focuses on instilling healthy habits in her children from an early age.

It was like a chain reaction, with each event leading to another. During that period, I failed to take care of myself properly.

It’s no surprise that I developed IBS, given how anxious I was about any unusual sensations in my body. However, I’m currently leading a very health-conscious life.

Alexandra, mother of two with her partner, the Irish soccer player Darren Randolph, had earlier discussed her battle with the condition on This Morning.

In her twenties, shortly following her appearance on The X Factor, she openly admitted that she initially faced challenges.

The performer confessed, “I reached a state where I felt powerless and it seemed surreal,” and further explained that despite being in intense pain, she hesitated to discuss it openly due to feelings of shame at the moment.

2021 saw Alexandra experience an unprecedented escalation of her symptoms as she prepared for a performance tour of the show “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The singer finally sought medical help and was diagnosed with IBS.

She mentioned: ‘The irony lies in the fact that, despite experiencing various symptoms, I often thought they were due to anxiety or some other cause. In reality, anxiety played a significant role in everything.’

Prior to performances, I used to forego meals as the discomfort would manifest afterwards. I would perform with an empty stomach, feeling hunger first.

‘It just was so bad and it got to the point where I thought to myself “I can’t take this anymore.”‘

Looking back, Alexandra admitted she’s amazed it took her so long to seek help.

Alexandra admits, for the first time, that she had been experiencing signs like pain, cramping, and bloating after meals, but it wasn’t until later that she recognized these symptoms as IBS. As someone well-known, she felt the need to maintain an idealized public image.

Instead of consulting her GP earlier, she now wishes she had done so. She explained that she was hesitant because she believed it was a common issue.

Alexandra is currently over the moon since she and footballer Darren recently announced their engagement, following his proposal last month.

In September, the runner-up from Strictly Come Dancing announced her engagement joyfully, sharing photographs of her fiance proposing to her.

At the heartwarming proposal, Alexandra radiated beauty in a captivating emerald lace midi gown, while a table adorned with delicate flower petals served as a picturesque backdrop.

In the photos, the singer added ring emojis as captions, while many celebrities offered their congratulations to the couple.

In June 2022, their first child was born, followed by the arrival of a second in September 2023. They opted to withhold the children’s names from public knowledge.

In my own words during a chat on Capital EXTRA Breakfast, I shared about my engagement experience: “Let me tell you, it was nothing short of enchanting! The planning behind it was meticulous. To be honest, I had no idea just how romantic Darren truly is until that special day!

The Instagram post we shared is ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. This was my granddad’s favorite song, and it played right before the event happened. I felt that if he didn’t do it then, it would never happen for us – especially since it was just an anniversary celebration!

However, upon stepping onto the balcony and finding him holding the infants, I was utterly floored. Utterly floored. Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably! As I recall that moment, I can’t help but feel emotional again, because he is truly the man of my dreams.

Indeed, I find myself filled with profound gratitude. Truly, I am overjoyed to have my loved ones by my side – my family, a gift beyond measure. It seems as though fortune has smiled upon me, and I could not be more content.
