Alexander Skarsgård Says Brother Bill Skarsgård’s Nosferatu Is Sexier Than His True Blood Vampire, But His 3-Word Review Of The Performance Is Really Making Me Laugh
At the Skarsgård residence, multiple family members have portrayed vampires on screen. Yet, a fresh competitor for “Most Seductive Vampire” has emerged within the clan, and surprisingly, Alexander Skarsgård acknowledges he’s not the one. The leading actor from True Blood, who enchanted audiences as the alluring vampire Eric Northman (available to stream with a Max subscription), now passes the torch of “sexiest vamp” to his brother Bill. However, it’s Alexander’s brief commentary on his sibling’s acting as Count Orlok in Robert Eggers’ renowned Nosferatu that leaves me in stitches.
On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the experienced actor from Succession was interviewed by Josh Horowitz. During their chat, they veered off into an intriguing discussion about vampires. Of course, Horowitz posed the intriguing dilemma: who’s more enticing as a bloodsucker, Alexander’s brooding Eric Northman from True Blood, or Bill Skarsgård’s terrifying, gothic Count Orlok in Robert Eggers’ upcoming 2024 horror film? Unflappably, the actor born in Sweden responded:
Nosferatu. That’s, like, pure sex right there.
In an unexpected twist, Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal of Orlok in Eggers’ horror remake is more terrifying than charming, despite the fact that his usual appearances might be considered heartthrobs. Under a layer of heavy prosthetics, facial sores, and clothing reminiscent of 1800s plague-style fashion, Skarsgård transforms into a far cry from the typical brooding vampire in a leather jacket. His towering stature, hushed growl, and indeed, an ominous brush mustache, create a character that is truly unsettling, even causing fear among his co-stars.
To put it another way, Alexander Skarsgård’s character, Eric, on True Blood was undeniably “the one” – always seen without a shirt, sporting sleek hairstyles, and oozing Viking charisma. It’s quite possible that this very same charm helped him secure one of his most impressive roles yet, as the Viking prince in Robert Eggers’ The Northman. Throughout eight seasons of this popular HBO series, Eric was never short of passionate scenes. However, the suggestion that his brother’s hideous vampire character is more alluring than Eric? That’s classic Skarsgård wit at its finest.
As it appeared that the Tarzan impersonator was pumping up his sibling under the pale glow of the moonlit night, Josh Horowitz inquired for an unbiased, truthful opinion on Bill’s performance. It was at this moment that the elder Skarsgård responded with a dry wit:
It was okay.
Let’s bring in the chuckles! Horowitz burst out laughing and commented, “Indeed, a classic move from a true sibling.” Beyond the playful banter, Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal as Nosferatu has been a hot topic since its premiere. In a recent podcast appearance, the star of Big Little Lies made it clear that, despite the jests, there’s no professional rivalry among the Skarsgård brothers. He elaborated:
Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal as Nosferatu has sparked many conversations since its release. On a podcast, he clarified that although they banter, there’s no real competition between the Skarsgård brothers in their work. He explained this further:
In that aspect, we aren’t competing against each other. It would have been more challenging if we were all fighting for the same positions… Luckily, we avoid such situations.
The Skarsgård family isn’t exactly small; they boast quite an impressive lineup. Alexander, Bill, and Gustaf Skargård from ‘Vikings’, to mention just a few, are part of the family. Their father, renowned actor Stellan, is also included. Altogether, there are nine of them. Though several have ventured into Hollywood stardom, each has forged their unique career path. Frankly, we’re all fortunate for it. Alexander introduced us to a chic, contemporary vampire icon, while Bill is reinventing horror with his acting that manages to be both frightening and undeniably “erotic”.
Indeed, a double bill of “True Blood” and “Nosferatu” seems like an enticing Halloween movie night custom in the making. Frankly, just as I favor Scandinavian products to be tall, chilly, and bearing the mark of Alexander, so too do I appreciate my vampires.
