In July 2020, it was discovered that the fashion designer had endometriosis, a condition where uterine tissue grows in other parts of the body.

Currently, Alexa has acknowledged that dealing with this specific condition has been a frustrating experience for her, and she has voiced her criticism towards it due to its lack of sufficient funding.

She disclosed that she had a laparoscopic procedure, which involves accessing the pelvic region through tiny openings, to remove the problematic tissue in an attempt to alleviate her symptoms.

As an ardent enthusiast, I shared with The Telegraph my personal journey: “Years ago, I underwent a laparoscopy in hopes of alleviating endometriosis. Though they haven’t yet found a definitive cure for this condition, they seem quite partial to excising it when possible, as a potential solution.

Even with highly supportive and exceptional medical professionals, I eventually encounter a dead-end in the roadmap of treatments they can provide for me.

As a devoted enthusiast, I can’t help but express my profound exasperation. It’s disheartening to be part of the narrative surrounding women’s health, where crucial topics remain woefully overlooked and under-investigated in the realm of scientific research.

In a different context, Alexa shared that she had returned to work and Tan enquired about her recent doctor’s visit. To which, Alexa responded with a concern that the results might indicate ovarian cancer.

In March 2020, Alexa implied that the scarcity of data on endometriosis might stem from a prejudice in healthcare services towards women.

Instead of sharing it directly, she decided to post on Instagram a picture of a tube advertisement board displaying facts about the particular condition.

She wrote: “Why aren’t they aware of it? Why can’t they find a cure for it? Could it be due to a prejudice in reproductive healthcare for women? Additionally, I suspect the length and dullness of the term ‘endometriosis’ doesn’t make it easy to read or understand.

I’d like to express my gratitude to @allontheboard for their efforts in bringing attention to a crippling illness that impacts one out of ten women, often taking an average of seven years to detect. Thank you for your advocacy!

I want to express my apologies if you are going through this, but I am overjoyed if you aren’t, and thankful for being able to count on your support as a partner, friend, or family member during these difficult times.

I consider myself fortunate as I’ve noticed a significant improvement following my surgery, yet I recognize that this isn’t always the outcome for others, and it might not stay this way indefinitely.
