Alarming rumour rocks Moriah College as parents vent about SIX Year 10 students being expelled from $40k-a-year Sydney institution – and there’s a police investigation: LUCY MANLY

I can’t believe what I’m hearing! There’s talk of students being kicked out of Sydney’s top Jewish day school, and it’s happening right after that whole crazy ‘muck-up day’ thing at the Catholic girls’ school got everyone talking. It’s just… a lot is going on, and I’m totally glued to every update!

Parents at the $40,000-a-year Moriah College are expressing concerns that could become a problem for the school. Notable alumni include musician Ben Lee, fashion designer Josh Goot, and media personalities Sharri Markson and Linton Besser.

I first learned about the issue when I received screenshots from a private Facebook group for parents at the school. A former parent had posted about being upset by reports that Moriah had expelled six tenth-grade students, though the reason for the expulsion wasn’t mentioned.

The post disappeared almost immediately. Shortly after, I heard reports of some kids causing trouble near Moriah’s campus in Queens Park, and then things started to make sense…

The school took the strongest disciplinary action available after police in the eastern suburbs investigated reports of students throwing water balloons at cars.

Several parents are upset about the recent decision, and one former parent believes the school is prioritizing ‘political correctness’ over what’s best for students.

Members of the Moriah Parents and Friends Association, a Facebook group with 938 members, expressed strong disapproval of the school’s decision to expel six tenth-grade students.

It’s disheartening to say, but Moriah School has consistently fallen short of community expectations for the past ten years.

These choices aren’t helping the school, and it’s disappointing to see how far it’s fallen from its previously good standards. It’s a sad situation for what used to be a strong Jewish school.

‘Being politically correct is a road to the demise of a once legendary school for Jewish kids.’

Reports of students throwing water balloons in Queens Park, Rose Bay, and Bondi led to claims that some students were expelled.

A driver reported their car was struck by what appeared to be a water balloon, but fortunately, the window wasn’t broken.

‘Police have informed me that this is going on a lot with kid gangs on e-bikes at night.’

Another said the waterbombers’ antics had become increasingly brazen.

One resident reported seeing a group of people in Bondi around 9 p.m. who threw something at a car and then ran away while laughing.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this story closely, and it’s really concerning to hear directly from those affected. One driver shared with me that their car was also hit, and they pointed out a clear sign of what happened – a large trail of balloon pieces scattered along the road. It’s a visual confirmation of the incident and a reminder of the potential dangers.

‘Police really should be driving past at night.’

I reached out to NSW Police for a statement and discovered they are now investigating the waterbomber incident.

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, shortly after 8:00 PM, police responded to a call on Queens Park Road in Queens Park, according to a police spokesperson.

Police in the Eastern Suburbs received a report that a group of people were throwing water balloons and eggs at parked cars before leaving the area.

No one was hurt and the vehicles involved weren’t damaged in the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.

I tried contacting Moriah College by email, and when I went to their Queens Park campus on Monday afternoon, I wasn’t allowed in.

These recent expulsions, reportedly due to ‘waterbombing,’ come after a similar incident in 2021 where students were expelled for seemingly using drugs on camera during online classes, witnessed by both teachers and classmates.

The acts were caught on camera during a Zoom lesson and widely shared among students.

One video depicted a twelfth-grade student grinding what appeared to be flour with a bank card. Another showed a former student, who had been expelled, smoking from a water pipe during a Jewish studies lesson.

In a letter to parents, Moriah’s principal at the time, Rabbi Yehoshua Smukler, explained that the school had identified everyone involved in the videos – including those who filmed them and those who weren’t authorized to be in the classes.

These actions have led to significant disciplinary measures, including students being dismissed. We’ve ensured all decisions were fair and aligned with our principles, he stated.

In response, the school’s systems were updated with stronger security measures.

At Loreto Kirribilli, a private Catholic school with annual tuition around $35,000, students and teachers are trying to find out who shared video footage of a wild party that took place during the school’s end-of-year celebrations last week.

We shared amazing photos and video last Thursday showing Year 12 students celebrating at their end-of-year party.

The girls locked themselves in the bathrooms and broke some toilets. Afterwards, they made fun of the teachers who intervened by sharing offensive images created with AI on Snapchat.

Around 130 female students were sent home as punishment, which angered some parents who felt it was too severe. This was particularly surprising because Loreto school had previously avoided suspensions and expulsions.

There was a concern that last Friday’s graduation ceremony might be cancelled, but school officials later said this wasn’t going to happen, and the ceremony proceeded as planned.
