Alan Ritchson’s War Machine: Perfect Reacher Prequel With A Sci-Fi Twist

The trailer for Alan Ritchson’s new action film on Netflix strongly suggests it could serve as an ideal backstory for his character, Reacher. However, a unique element in the movie’s plot sets it apart from the Reacher stories we already know.

Alan Ritchson is quickly becoming a major star in Hollywood, with several high-profile projects on the way. But even with all his new work, he’s still strongly recognized for his excellent portrayal of Jack Reacher in the Prime Video series. He’s poised to take on many other memorable roles in the years to come.

Even in his next Netflix action movie, his character still feels very similar to Jack Reacher.

The trailer for War Machine starts with a park ranger praising Alan Ritchson’s character as a remarkably talented recruit. While Jack Reacher wasn’t a ranger, he’s a military veteran and a highly skilled former military police officer. His past shows he was also an effective leader and a positive influence on many junior officers.

Even from the short clips of the War Machine trailer, Alan Ritchson’s character immediately steps up and takes charge when a training exercise turns intense.

It’s still unknown if Alan Ritchson’s character is the main villain, but he certainly embodies a machine-like quality in the film. Footage from the making of the movie shows Ritchson underwent incredibly demanding training to prepare for the role, pushing him further than he’d ever gone before. This dedication is clear in the trailer, where he appears powerfully built and reminiscent of his role as Jack Reacher.

Given how similar Alan Ritchson’s character in War Machine is to Jack Reacher, it’s easy to think of the film as an earlier story about him. However, War Machine sets itself apart with an interesting science fiction element that gives it its own unique feel.

War Machine’s Sci-Fi Twist Makes It The Perfect Combination Of Reacher & Predator

The trailer for War Machine shows Alan Ritchson and his team battling an alien enemy during a training exercise. While this alien appears more robotic in War Machine, the movie’s inclusion of extraterrestrials draws comparisons to the 1987 film Predator. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character Dutch in Predator, Ritchson leads a highly skilled military rescue team.

Similar to Jack Ritchson’s role in War Machine, the character Dutch also comes across an alien fighter while on a mission with his squad.

Although the two films share some similarities, they feel quite different in terms of mood, and the action scenes in the Alan Ritchson movie are more realistic. Because the Predator series is so well-known, War Machine will probably be measured against it.

This could also be a breakout role for Alan Ritchson, launching a brand new science fiction series on Netflix.
