So, everyone knows Alan Ritchson now from Reacher and blockbusters like Fast X, but I remember him making waves in the DC world years ago – he was Aquaman on Smallville, and then really shone as Hawk in the first three seasons of Titans. Now, he’s hinted at potentially joining James Gunn’s new DC Universe, and honestly, I’m thrilled! The character he described wanting to play sounds perfect for him, and I’m already excited to see what they come up with for him in an upcoming movie or series.
I was really excited to hear Kaley Ritchson talking about his new movie, Play Date, which is coming to Amazon Prime next week. He mentioned in an interview with ScreenRant that he’s been chatting with the folks over at DCU about potentially joining their universe. When asked if he’d prefer to play another hero or finally embrace the villain role, he shared his thoughts…
I’ve been talking to them about wanting to play a more complex and flawed character. I explained the type of personality I’m aiming for and how that would impact the story, and I believe it’s something audiences are eager to see. Basically, I want to play someone a little less perfect than the usual hero.
It’s great to hear Alan Ritchson is having positive discussions with DC Studios. Now I’m really curious to know what character he might play. After portraying two superheroes, it’s understandable he’d be interested in a role that’s a bit different. That said, his previous character, Hawk (Hank Hall) on Titans, was quite complex, dealing with a troubled romance and often using harsh tactics.
Given how popular Alan Ritchson is, if he joins the DC Universe, he’d likely play a major role – either as the star of a new project or as an important supporting character in someone else’s. A good example of this type of role is Jason Momoa’s introduction as Lobo in the Supergirl movie. Many fans believe Ritchson would be perfect as Batman, and James Gunn, a co-head of DC Studios, hasn’t ruled it out. However, he won’t be taking on the role of Aquaman.
While we’re waiting to hear updates about Alan Ritchson’s discussions with DC Studios, you can rewatch his previous superhero performances. Stream Smallville on Hulu and Titans on HBO Max. Or, if you’re looking for something new, check out Play Date with Kevin James, available starting Wednesday, November 12.
