Alan Carr’s ITV comedy gets future confirmed
As a fan of heartfelt comedies that strike a chord with the audience, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the renewal of Alan Carr’s semi-autobiographical series, Changing Ends. Having grown up in the 1980s myself, I can relate to the nostalgic charm that this show offers.
Alan Carr’s comedy series Changing Ends has been renewed for two seasons at ITV.
After its season 2 premiere in July, this semi-autobiographical comedy has been granted two more series with a total of 12 episodes. Originally airing in June 2023, the show features Carr and Oliver Savell portraying a young Alan, chronicling the life of a comedian who grew up in Northampton during the 1980s under the management of his fourth-division football coach father.
Speaking about the renewal, Carr said returning for two more series at ITVX and ITV1 feels “mind-blowing”.
Hearing that my sitcom has been recommended for another season is fantastic news, but learning it’s getting two more seasons is absolutely astonishing and feels like an incredible honor. I don’t underestimate this recognition in any way.
He acknowledged the strong impact the show has had on its audience and assured them that he wouldn’t disappoint. Being someone who sometimes finds his real life resembling a sitcom, he mentioned that there are still many stories from his childhood waiting to be shared.
It looks like two shows have been commissioned! The idea of ‘Changing Ends’ taking on the role as Northampton’s counterpart to ‘The Crown’ just became twice as plausible!
This half-hour show is jointly developed by Carr, along with the late Simon Carlyle (known for creating “Two Doors Down“), and they both collaborate on writing it alongside Gabby Best. In addition, Carr holds the role of executive producer.
ITV’s Head of Comedy, Nana Hughes, stated that ‘Changing Ends‘ is steadily expanding into one of our most cherished comedies. It seems the initial escapades of young Alan Carr are resonating strongly with viewers.
The acting is outstanding, and the touching narrative seems to resonate deeply with our audience.
The series titled “Changing Ends” hails from the same production house as the popular comedy “Gavin & Stacey“, namely Baby Cow Productions.
Sarah Monteith, the CEO of Baby Cow, expressed her joy that ITV has given us not just one but two additional series of our popular comedy show Changing Ends. She added that they are enjoying exploring Alan’s adolescence and finding it quite moving!
The first two installments of the “Changing Ends” series are currently available for streaming on ITVX. Further release details for seasons 3 and 4 will be shared at an appropriate time.
