Alan Carr has confirmed he and Paloma Faith are no longer friends, speaking out for the first time about their falling out after he pretended to eliminate her on the reality show Celebrity Traitors.
I heard the comedian, who’s 49, talk about the tension with the singer – she’s pregnant and apparently really upset about being the first one ‘eliminated’ on the BBC show. He admitted she was furious, and it was interesting to hear how that played out behind the scenes.
Alan, a contestant on the show with Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns, admitted he’s really trying to repair his relationship with Paloma.
During a conversation on his podcast, ‘Life’s A Beach,’ with DJ Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), he jokingly claimed he was ‘killing people,’ saying he’d developed a ‘real taste for it.’ He specifically mentioned ‘killing’ Paloma Faith, adding that she wasn’t pleased about it.
When Norman asked, ‘Aren’t you mates with Paloma?’, Alan replied, ‘Well, I was…’
The presenter explained that Paloma told him she was deeply hurt by his actions on the show.
He recounted her final words: “If you were a true friend, you wouldn’t have betrayed me.” He responded by pointing out his role in the game, saying, “I’m the Traitor! The show is literally called ‘The Traitors’ – my job is to deceive people.”
She’s made a few videos on TikTok saying she feels I betrayed her by revealing her identity publicly.
Alan explained that he hadn’t meant to upset fans, and his actions were just a natural reaction to the pressure of the situation. He admitted he’d acted impulsively.
He compared the situation to appearing on the show Naked Attraction and being unexpectedly asked to reveal even more, saying, ‘You know what you’re getting into when you agree to do something like that!’
He explained his choice to ‘eliminate’ Paloma – following the game’s rules, this involved touching her face with pollen from a fake poisonous lily – and joked that he wouldn’t dare do the same to Stephen Fry or Celia Imrie. He quipped that at his age, such a move would just seem unsettling.
Alan revealed he is now desperate to make amends with Only Love Can Hurt Like This hitmaker.
He told me he was taking her out to dinner, and honestly, it was so sweet hearing him talk about her. He’s completely smitten – a huge fan, he said, and thinks she’s amazing.
