Singer Akon, famous for songs like “Smack That,” was arrested in Atlanta last week due to an existing warrant, several local news sources reported.
According to Fox5 Atlanta, police found Akon last Friday using a security camera at a window-tinting shop in DeKalb County. He was arrested due to an outstanding warrant, moved between different jails, and then released after only six hours, as reported by Page Six. CBS News confirmed his car wasn’t taken into custody.
A warrant was issued for Akon, also known as Aliaune Badara Thiam, after an incident in Fulton County last September. He was found stuck in his Tesla Cybertruck with a dead battery, according to Page Six. He had previously been cited for driving with a suspended license because he didn’t show up for a separate court case in 2023.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is accusing several celebrities of illegally promoting cryptocurrencies. They allegedly failed to reveal they were being paid to endorse these investments.
Akon’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce in early September. According to People magazine, she is requesting shared legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey, and wants to allow Akon to have visitation rights. The divorce papers were filed on September 11th, just before the couple would have celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary.
Since being arrested, the singer of “Right Now (Na Na Na)” has been performing in India. He played a show in Delhi last Sunday and has upcoming concerts in Bengaluru on Friday and Mumbai this Sunday.
