Ahsoka nabs 5 Primetime Emmy nominations!

As a dedicated fan of Star Wars and someone who closely follows its behind-the-scenes developments, I am thrilled to see Ahsoka making a significant impact at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. The recognition that this limited series has received is truly deserving, and I am particularly excited about the various nominations it has earned in the fantasy/sci-fi categories.

Here are the nominations for the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards, and Star Wars has made a strong showing in its traditional categories. Leading the pack is the limited series “Ahsoka,” which earned an impressive five nominations for creative achievements!

Let’s look at each of the nominations!

Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes

I’m thrilled to put forth a nomination for the exceptional team of costume designers behind “Part Eight: The Jedi, The Witch, And The Warlord.” This trio includes the brilliant mind of Shawna Trpcic, ably supported by her assistant Elissa Alcala, and the skilled Costume Supervisor Devon Patterson. Their collective efforts brought the intricate costumes of this production to life, leaving me in awe and deeply appreciative of their artistry.

Outstanding Period Or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Hairstyling

In the first part titled “Master and Apprentice,” the nominations are as follows: Department Head Hairstylist Maria Sandoval, Assistant Department Head Hairstylist Ashleigh Childers, the leading Hairstylist Sallie Ciganovich, and hairstylists Marc Mapile and Alyn Topper.

Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup

As a gamer, I’m excited to highlight the eighth installment of this nomination once more. This time around, the spotlight shines on the talented team of Makeup Designers Alexei Dmitriew and Cristina Waltz, as well as Prosthetic Designer J. Alan Scott. Working alongside them are Key Makeup Artist Ana Gabriela Quinonez Urrego, and a dynamic trio composed of Cale Thomas, Alex Perrone, and Scott Stoddard. Together, they bring the magic of makeup and prosthetics to life in this captivating production.

Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation

Matthew Wood, the Co-Supervising Sound Editor, is no less an expert in receiving these recognitions. Accompanying him are his Supervising Sound Editor partner Bonnie Wild and Sound Designer David Acord. Their team includes James Spencer, Vanessa Lapato, Stephanie McNally, Trey Turner, Kimberly Patrick, Tim Farrell, Joel Raabe, Chris Tergesen, Ronni Brown, Heikki Kossi, and Shelley Roden. Simply put, Matthew Wood and his colleagues – Bonnie Wild, David Acord, and the rest of their team – have once again been nominated for their exceptional work in sound editing.

Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie

Throughout the entire series, this team is composed of ILM members honoring the contributions of Richard Bluff, Jakris Smittant, Paul Kavanagh, TC Harrison, Scott Fisher, Enrico Damm, Justin van der Lek, Rick O’Connor, and J. Alan Scott.

I can’t help but feel a mix of joy and sadness as I learn about these nominations. Sadly, Shawna Trpcic passed away in 2023. She was the brilliant mind behind “Ahsoka,” my favorite series. Her absence from the franchise has left a noticeable gap. But seeing her work recognized in this way brings me immense pleasure.
