Ahead of Theatrical Return, Harry Potter Becomes an Instant Streaming Sensation

A hugely popular fantasy series is gaining momentum as a new movie is set to hit cinemas. Currently, two of its films are seeing a big increase in viewers on HBO’s streaming service.

According to FlixPatrol, the Harry Potter movies were especially popular for streaming during the Christmas season and at the end of the year. The first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (released in 2001), ranked sixth globally on HBO Max, while the fifth movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (from 2007), came in tenth.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is performing well across many streaming and digital platforms. It initially reached number eight on Vudu on December 30th and is now at number six in the U.S. The film is also very popular on the Apple TV Store, gaining traction in Europe, Asia, and South America, and is available on Prime Video in Belgium and Brazil.

The first movie based on the popular seven-book series is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026. Warner Bros. plans a special theatrical re-release to mark the occasion, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet. They anticipate a significant event.

To celebrate the anniversary, we’re unveiling a new logo inspired by the shimmering look of a Patronus, along with limited-edition merchandise, special offers, and other exclusive items.

The 2001 movie launched the careers of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. These actors became instantly famous for playing Harry, Hermione, and Ron in all seven films of the series. The movie also sparked a widespread desire to attend Hogwarts and learn magic.

Fans of Harry Potter have another exciting experience to look forward to: the first film will be shown in a new, immersive format. It will be presented in Cosm’s massive 87-foot LED dome theaters, using special technology to fill the entire dome with the movie.

Harry Potter Is Getting Rebooted

As a moviegoer, I have to admit the Harry Potter films were a massive phenomenon. The original eight movies alone raked in over $7.7 billion globally, and when you include the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs, that number jumps to over $9.5 billion! And it’s not stopping there – starting in 2027, Harry Potter is poised to become a huge streaming success as well.

Warner Bros. revealed plans to restart the series in April 2023, and production is already well underway. Filming began last summer and continues to this day. The goal is to create a ten-year television show that closely follows the story of the seven books.

Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter in the upcoming version, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The film will also feature a strong supporting cast including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, as well as numerous other talented actors.

The Harry Potter films are available to stream on HBO Max and Peacock.
