Aggie MacKenzie claims she wanted desperately to be Kim Woodburn’s pal but says her late co-star ‘didn’t do friends’ as she reveals how their 20 year feud forced her into therapy

Aggie MacKenzie expressed a strong desire to befriend Kim Woodburn, but lamented that her former co-star was not fond of making friends. The disagreement between them eventually prompted Aggie to seek counseling.

Kim, who tragically passed away at the age of 83 in June, had been embroiled in a 20-year dispute with her ex-TV partner. They allegedly didn’t communicate during the filming of How Clean Is Your House, and this strained relationship ultimately resulted in the show coming to an end.

On Tuesday during the Vanessa Aggie show, 69-year-old Vanessa, known for discussing their ongoing disagreements in the past, referred to herself and Kim as “two completely different individuals,” using a common English idiom that likens them to chalk and cheese.

She mentioned that one reason it went so smoothly on camera might be because we never became friends in real life. I had hoped to befriend her, but it seemed like Kim wasn’t interested in forming friendships.

It seems that tension among us sparked a significant amount of energy. When the spotlight was on us, we excelled in our performance, but as soon as the camera was turned off, we’d retreat to opposite corners of the room.

Aggie shared that she continues to have dreams about making up with Kim, and it’s worth noting that during therapy, her strained relationship with Kim often became the main topic instead of her marital issues.

She mentioned her husband for a while, and then the conversation shifted to her relationship with Kim.

‘Which was a much bigger problem for me than my marriage’. 

The TV star eventually split from husband Matthew Goulcher in 2010 after 19 years of marriage.  

After her fellow actors’ passing, Aggie expressed in a statement to Daily Mail: ‘Kim struggled deeply, yet now she finds tranquility.’

‘Our paths frequently crossed, revealing a complex individual. Beneath her formidable exterior lay deep sorrow and remarkable resilience. She endured because she must. May she find peace now. She was an indelible figure in my life.’

In 2023, Aggie shared that she and Kim never saw eye to eye, and revealed why their reality show ended in 2009 following a six-year run. She explained that their relationship had deteriorated to a point where it was challenging for them to keep filming together due to the strain.

In conversation with Nana Akua on GB News, Aggie expressed her viewpoint: “Although we are as different as chalk and cheese, I believe this difference is what made our interaction successful.

Due to the tension we had, it generated a dynamic that allowed us to perform naturally on camera. Essentially, much of what you see was improvised. We had a general plot in mind, but we essentially crafted our scenes spontaneously as we worked.

Aggie added, “Kim isn’t always easy to understand. I’m someone who likes to jump right into things, and Kim had a challenging start in life, a tough childhood that, I believe, significantly affected her upbringing.

‘There was lots of conflict, many rows and she spent a lot of her childhood in a children’s home.

In her case, conflicts seem common, and she seems to struggle when things are smooth and uncomplicated. On the other hand, simplicity suits me just fine. There were numerous peaks, but also a few troughs.

This paraphrased version aims to convey the same meaning using simpler and more natural language.

The star disclosed that both hosts were equally prepared to try something new and leave the program behind.

Aggie mentioned: “For a period, we found it quite challenging, to be honest, incredibly so. We persisted at this for six years, which is quite a lengthy duration.

Kim’s passing was announced on June 17.
