As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience, I find myself deeply saddened by the ongoing feud between these two legendary musicians, Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck. It is disheartening to see such iconic figures from my youth, who once brought joy and music to millions, now engaged in a bitter war of words.

In the 1960s, they were the charismatic epitomes of masculinity, with their slick dance moves and oversized sideburns that made young women faint – and this was intensified even more when these former bandmates performed together on stage.

These days, it’s not uncommon to witness a heated verbal dispute between singing legends Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck, half a century after they both made their initial chart breakthroughs.

Approximately six months ago, Humperdinck, famous for his 1967 No. 1 hit “Release Me,” expressed in an interview that Jones has apparently lost his vocal abilities. He believes that Jones may no longer possess the voice he once had.

Currently, the renowned Welsh singer Jones, famed for his Sixties hits Delilah and She’s A Lady, as well as his 1999 smash Sex Bomb, has made headlines with a surprising response to his past chart competitor Humperdinck. In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, he referred to him as a ‘puppet’.

2006 saw Sir Jones being honored with knighthood, and come the following Saturday, he’ll be back on ITV as a coach for their talent show The Voice. However, he firmly stated that he holds no plans for reconciliation.

He said: ‘There’s nothing friendly about him and I. He’s a p****, quote me on that. We fell out years ago. He’s tried, but I won’t talk to him.’

In the 1960s, these two gentlemen embarked on their professional journeys, getting signed by the distinguished record label, Decca Records. Jones entered the scene in 1963, while Humperdinck (formerly Gerry Dorsey) joined two years after that.

Enmities quickly arose from their competitiveness, leading them to grow increasingly distant. The exact cause of their conflict has always been somewhat unclear, but one of Jones’ ex-girlfriends claimed that Humperdinck made advances towards her in 1979. She described how, upon informing Jones about the other singer’s actions, he remained silent and expressionless.

And in 2015, Jones told Metro: ‘Once a c***, always a c***.’

For over four decades now, our paths haven’t crossed, although Humperdick asserts that he reached out to extend his condolences following the passing of Linda, my dear friend Jones’s wife, in 2016.

This year will be Jones’s 12th series on The Voice and while he doesn’t sing on it he does still want to protect his voice and stop himself from ageing – by sleeping with tape over his mouth.

He shared that he convinced the other judges on The Voice to adopt this practice as well. He stated, “I’m in great health, and so should you. I sleep on my side with my mouth taped shut.”

Due to feeling my throat drying out, I decided to try something that was said to be beneficial. For several years, I’ve been using one of these devices in my nostrils to clear my respiratory passages.

As I’ve grown older, I no longer focus on looking attractive while sleeping. However, there are times when I stand up to go to the bathroom that I startle myself.

Jones additionally shared that his good friend, Olly Murs, was deeply concerned about no longer being part of the program following his dismissal after a six-year tenure.

Initially, it was believed that Murs’ departure stemmed from a desire of the producers to bring in fresh judges to appeal to a younger demographic. However, at that time, Murs clarified that his exit wasn’t as friendly as it seemed; there were underlying issues that led to his decision.

Jones mentioned that we had both been traveling, but when the incident occurred, we conversed quite a lot. It seemed he was reluctant to depart as he enjoyed performing in the show.

‘It really bothered him, he didn’t like it. He’s married now and has a kid, so his life has changed. But it definitely bothered him.’
