Age of Empires: Survival brings hypercasual strategy to the hit series, soft-launches on Android in select regions

Story Highlights

  • Age of Empires: Survival is a new medieval 4X strategy game that mixes deep tactics with hypercasual gate-based combat.
  • The game features diverse civilizations, heroes, global alliances, dynamic terrain, weather changes, and more.
  • There’s currently no information about an iOS release or a global launch.

The subsidiary of Tencent Games, Level Infinite, has unveiled the initial release of their survival strategy game titled “Age of Empires: Survival.” This hypercasual title is now accessible on Android devices in both the United States and Puerto Rico.

On previous occasions, Tencent Games has introduced a mobile game derived from the hugely successful AOE series. Previously, they launched Age of Empires Mobile, a strategic 4x title, and now they’ve come up with a more casual, fast-paced version.

Build, battle, and survive in a medieval world

Age of Empires: Survival blends strategic gameplay with simple-yet-challenging wave defense mechanics. In this game, you fend off waves of enemies, boosted by multipliers and enhancements.

As a gamer, I get to pick among eight distinct civilizations, each with its unique traits, and command over 40 legendary heroes who’ll lead my empire. Furthermore, I can create potent weapons and make pivotal choices that dictate the destiny of my empire. The gameplay is straightforward yet engaging: I can navigate, dodge, fire, and engage in combat.

AoE Survival offers a trending yet disappointing take on the series

Having spent considerable time on various Age of Empires games, I’m eager to find out how this fresh interpretation fares. The gameplay involves beginning with a modest settlement and growing your empire by accumulating, constructing, and administering resources.

As someone who is passionate about Age of Empires, it’s disappointing to witness the series receiving a less-than-optimal treatment, considering there was an opportunity for a high-quality AAA game instead. And that’s not just referring to the current Age of Empires Mobile version.

Survival and Frozen War, given its rich array of civilizations, heroes, real-time gameplay, global alliances, shifting landscapes, and weather adaptations.

The game “Age of Empires: Survival” has been soft-launched for Android users in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. You can download it from the Google Play Store at this time. However, there’s no word yet about a release on iOS or a global launch.
