Agatha All Along outperforms every other MCU show in one unique way

As a gamer who’s been around the block more times than I care to remember, let me tell you this: Agatha Harkness’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The craziest part? It’s even more batsh*t crazy in all the right ways.

Agatha Harkness, known for stirring up a bit of mischief, has certainly done so with her comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s been almost four years since she first appeared in MCU during WandaVision. Kathryn Hahn once again graces our screens in the enchanting Disney Plus series that critics are praising as “magical” and “crazy, but just the right kind.” Isn’t that chaotic?

In a transformation journey, Agatha All Along follows Agatha as she strives to reclaim her power. Despite her self-centered nature, she finds herself needing her new coven for support during their journey on the Witches’ Path, each pursuing what they yearn for the most. Interestingly, Agatha is developing feelings for Teen, a young boy who found her, freed her from the Scarlet Witch’s enchantment, and has been assisting her ever since.

The program, Agatha All Along, has surprisingly captured the hearts of fans not only of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but also of Halloween-themed series, and this affection might be even stronger than any high viewership ratings could indicate (and it does have those impressive ratings as well). In an unexpected twist, Agatha All Along seems to outshine some of its more renowned peers.

Agatha All Along achieves highest continuation rate of any MCU show

The hit series “Agatha All Along” by Marvel is keeping its audience hooked! As per Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, the show has the highest rate of viewer retention among all Marvel shows. This indicates that a large number of people who watch its initial episodes stick around for subsequent installments. During an interview with Variety, he didn’t disclose specific numbers, but this is still a significant achievement for the series since none of the characters in it have been seen in any Marvel Cinematic Universe movies up until now. Remarkably, viewers continue to tune in week after week.

Following the debut of the show’s streaming data, Disney Plus announced that the premiere episode attracted 9.3 million viewers in its first week, marking a robust start for the series. Remarkably, the minutes spent watching the show during its first week totaled 72 million, which subsequently escalated to an astounding 304.7 million viewers in week 2, representing a staggering 321% increase. This significant milestone is particularly noteworthy given that the buzz from the initial premiere week had started to subside somewhat.

Agatha All Along outperforms every other MCU show in one unique way

In addition to other advantages, “Agatha” benefits from being Marvel Studios’ most economical production. While the specific cost isn’t publicly disclosed, it’s likely that “Echo,” which had a budget of $40 million, was the priciest Marvel show. Therefore, it’s reasonable to assume that the “WandaVision” spinoff’s budget is less than that. This makes it very cost-efficient, as its viewership numbers aren’t quite matching recent Star Wars series like “The Acolyte,” which was unfortunately cancelled after a single season, and whose production costs were astronomically high, ranging from $180 million to $230 million.

Choosing a more down-to-earth style for “Agatha All Along” was a shrewd move given that many previous MCU shows had movie-sized budgets. It’s refreshing to see Marvel Studios recognizing that television and films are distinct entities. The show, titled simply “Agatha,” seems perfectly suited to the TV format, which is a testament to its success. Despite having a budget that likely far exceeds the average TV series budget, it doesn’t require the grandeur of these expansive MCU movies.

Marvel’s strategy was undeniably successful, but it’s even more impressive to learn that ‘Agatha’ has surpassed expectations regardless. Word-of-mouth praise, eagerness for the ongoing storyline of ‘WandaVision’, the talented cast led by Joe Locke from ‘Heartstopper’, and the timing of its release during Halloween have all contributed to its success. The high viewership rate serves as further proof of this.

Marvel adopted a wise strategy for Agatha All Along and it’s clearly paying off.

New episodes of Agatha All Along stream on Disney Plus on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET.
