Agatha All Along episode 7 recap: “Death’s Hand in Mine”

Agatha All Along episode 7 recap: "Death's Hand in Mine"

As a seasoned storyteller who has witnessed countless tales unfold, I find myself captivated by the intricate and emotional journey of Lilia, a young woman with a destiny heavier than her years. Her life, fraught with loss, fear, and responsibility, mirrors the tumultuous waves of the sea she once called home.

We’re almost at the conclusion of “Agatha All Along”, but we’re not quite ready to part ways just yet. The latest episode focused on uncovering Teen’s real identity, revealing how he transformed into Billy Maximoff. In this episode, the coven didn’t undergo a trial along the Witches’ Path.

In episode 7, titled “Death’s Hand in Mine,” we find the plot moving forward once more. Now, it seems another trial is coming up. But who faces this trial, one may wonder? Here’s a summary of the events that unfolded in the seventh installment.

Spoilers from Agatha All Along episode 7 ahead!

Agatha All Along episode 7 recap: "Death's Hand in Mine"

In the seventh installment, Lilia mysteriously tumbles into an unidentified location, adorned in regal garb. The scene then transitions to Agatha and Billy walking along the pathway. Billy queries Agatha about Rio’s whereabouts, but she remains evasive and urges him to pose a different question instead. Throughout their dialogue, Billy brings up Wanda Maximoff not being his mother, hinting at a mother figure in his life. I can’t help but ponder the reason for his animosity towards Wanda.

Later on, Billy queries Agatha about whether Wanda is truly deceased. Agatha initially responds by confirming this but then hedges her answer to perhaps. She informs Billy that she observed a corpse, yet she’s uncertain if anyone else has noticed the same. Ultimately, they arrive at the location for the next challenge, which resembles a fairy tale castle.

Stepping into the enchanting castle, I find myself magically transformed – Agatha, now donning the sinister attire of the Wicked Witch of the West, and Billy, assuming his role as Maleficent. In the heart of the chamber lies a stone table, upon which tarot cards mysteriously appear. As soon as Billy touches them, a timer springs to life, marking the commencement of our trial.

Billy chooses to perform Agatha’s tarot reading, yet barely setting the first card, a sword miraculously falls from above and hits the ground. They both glance up at the ceiling, noticing several swords suspended there. It quickly becomes apparent that arranging the cards incorrectly will result in another sword falling. In her haste, Agatha carelessly throws down the cards on the table, which causes the ceiling-mounted swords to begin descending.

Next, we rejoin Lilia, with Jen now present. It appears we’re witnessing events following their entrapment in the mud pit from episode 5. They’re currently navigating a tunnel, attempting an escape. Lilia queries Jen about their location, perplexing Jen as Lilia had instructed her to follow the tunnel and search for shelving to exit just moments prior.

Lilia wonders where Agatha and Rio are, and as Jen is about to answer, Lilia interrupts by stating that the teenager expelled them from the Road. Jen clarifies that the son of the Scarlet Witch was the one who did it. Lilia queries how Jen knows he’s the Scarlet Witch’s child, but when she sees Jen’s puzzled expression, she understands that she herself had provided the information. It seems Lilia may have forgotten or is unaware that she shared this knowledge with Jen.

In their hike through the tunnel, Lilia and Jen converse. Jen observes that Lilia seems particularly delicate or fragile (wispy), which reminds us of episode 4 when Lilia inquired about Alice’s demeanor, questioning whether she was delicate or eccentric (wispy or kooky). The narrative then flashes back to episode 3, where Lilia calls out to Agatha urgently, “Save Agatha!” A mysterious voice is heard asking, “Lilia, what do you see?” This takes us back to the Renaissance period, where an elderly woman poses a similar question to a younger Lilia.

In my own words as a fan: I, a young woman named Lilia, speak Sicilian first, for the older lady already knew I was here before asking. When asked about how long it has been, I reply with a wry smile, “Centuries.” The elderly woman then shares that we’re going to have our initial tea leaf reading lesson. As I gaze into the cup on the table, I’m transported back to the tunnel where Jen and I were searching for an escape.

As a gamer, I find myself in the middle of an intense debate with Lilia, who insists I’ve got her all wrong. She’s not confused, she claims. After some heated exchanges, Lilia finally opens up about her unique perspective on life. She shares that the concept of time flowing linearly is more illusion than reality for her. As a kid, she experienced her life in a non-sequential manner, with flashes and gaps here and there. Now, those instances are happening again, but more frequently and intensely. I ask her why it’s worsening, and she hints that perhaps it’s because she’s nearing the end of something significant.

In an unexpected turn, I found myself standing trial alongside Lilia and Jen within the castle, alongside Agatha and Billy. To my surprise, Lilia was adorned in attire reminiscent of Glinda the Good Witch, a connection that became more apparent as the episode unfolded. On the other hand, Jen’s appearance mirrored the hag form of the Evil Queen. In the heat of the trial, Lilia leaped to shield Agatha from a falling sword, finding herself beneath her in the process.

After Lilia rises from her fall, she moves towards Billy and holds him tight against the wall. Facing penitence, Billy apologizes to Lilia and seems to comprehend her thoughts. Lilia gazes intently into Billy’s eyes, and suddenly recalls their first encounter – meeting William Kaplan at his bar mitzvah. Upon experiencing a brief moment of panic, Lilia quickly shifts gears to strategize on how to prevail in the upcoming trial.

Billy inquires if Lilia was the one who marked him with the sigil, and she acknowledges that indeed it was her. She explains that she had foreseen the events that would transpire during his bar mitzvah night and believed he required more time. Consequently, swords start raining down from the ceiling, hinting at the urgency of the impending trial.

Subsequently, the narrative shifts to a recollection of the cabin scene from episode 5, where everyone was alarmed and Lilia displayed erratic outbursts. Another past event is depicted from episode 1, featuring Agatha and Billy visiting Lilia’s store to seek her assistance. Finally, we are transported back to the elderly woman.

The elderly woman inquires from Lilia about her present life and whether she belongs to a group of witches. Before addressing the old woman’s question, Lilia queries how one can manage ongoing events. The old woman responds by suggesting that her role isn’t to control but to observe. Subsequently, we return to the tunnel where Lilia and Jen continue their journey. Lilia discovers Billy’s book of spells on the ground and decides to keep it hidden. Jen inquires about how Lilia ended the incident from her past, and Lilia explains that she chose to disregard it. Jen asks why she chose to ignore it, and Lilia answers because all she could see was death.

Initially, the voices of Billy and Agatha become discernible. Lilia and Jen scan their surroundings, realizing they’ve reached the next challenge due to the presence of shelves. They cautiously enter the room to discover an argument between Agatha and Billy. As Lilia comprehends her task for this trial, she settles down and reads out a passage to Billy. However, as she lays the magician card, a sword drops from above. More swords follow suit as she places additional cards, creating a hazardous situation.

As I returned to find Lilia seated beside the ancient crone, the events of our shared past unfolded before me. This venerable woman, it turned out, was once a member of my original coven, a group that had been cruelly swept away by a relentless fever.

The episode cuts back to the tunnel, but this time around, we’re seeing the scene when Lilia and Jen first land in the tunnel after sinking in the mud trap. Lilia explains to Jen that Agatha and Billy are doing the Divination trial aka her trial and they need their help. They look around the tunnel and their are two routes to go. One route is a way off the Road while the other will take them to the trial. As Jen contemplates on what she wants to do, the Salem Seven start appearing. They hide until they go away and then Jen decides to join Lilia on the route to the trial.

Currently, we find ourselves once more within the castle serving as the trial venue. Lilia has come to realize her past mistake – she should not have read for others but focus on reading for herself. Now, she carefully arranges each card from her stack on the table, while the ceiling adorned with hanging swords descends further. Eventually, she reaches the Destination card, transporting us back to when Lilia and Jen initially arrived in the tunnel. As Jen remains unresponsive, Lilia stirs awake, noticing a figure cloaked in a hood approaching them within the tunnel.

The mysterious person asks her if she remembers them and Lilia takes a moment to think about it. After thinking over everything, she realizes that the hooded figure is Rio aka Death! We cut back to the trial with Lilia holding the Death card in her hand. The ceiling is about to crush everyone, so Agatha quickly grabs the Death card out of Lilia’s hand and places it in its spot. The ceiling with swords hanging from it stops descending and goes back up. An exit appears in the room, meaning that the trial is officially over.

Lilia unveils to the group that Rio is actually Death, or the true Green Witch. Despite this being common knowledge for Agatha, there’s no time for a conversation about it because the Salem Seven are rapidly closing in. With everyone fleeing through the exit leading back to the road, Lilia decides to put herself on the line for the coven, electing to stand and fight the Salem Seven in an attempt to vanquish them forever.

In this episode’s opening, Lilia overturned The Tower card on a stone table, sending chaos throughout the room and causing the witches to soar through the air, ending up on swords. Despite clinging onto the table for dear life, Lilia too risked landing on a sword. However, when it seemed like she had managed to escape this fate, she lost her grip and tumbled to the ground. Although the show doesn’t explicitly depict her death, it strongly suggests that Lilia perished after hitting a sword, much like the other witches did.

In the final sequence, a youthful Lilia dashes towards the elderly woman for their inaugural tea-leaf tutoring session.
