Agatha All Along episode 7 recap and review: "Death's Hand In Mine"

As a seasoned gamer and longtime fan of the WandaVision universe, I must say that episode 7 of Agatha All Along left me with a mix of emotions. On one hand, I was thrilled to finally understand Lilia’s backstory and her connection to the coven. Her ability to predict the future, albeit a burden, added an intriguing layer to her character. However, the fact that she was trapped in a time loop was a bit of a letdown. It felt like we were missing out on the opportunity to see her in her full glory, perhaps even dressed in Renaissance clothing as I had hoped.

In the previous installment of “Agatha All Along”, we discover that the unidentified teen character is indeed the one in question, and it was Lilia who cast the Sigil upon him. This time around, we delve into Lilia’s identity as she stands trial, unveiling secrets beyond what viewers anticipated. So, how will this episode influence the show going forward? Let’s see!

Death’s Hand In Mine

The entire story revolves around Lilia, who, as we discover, has been alive for hundreds, if not thousands of years, and has possessed the unique ability to foresee the future since her childhood in Italy. Unfortunately, this talent has only led to hardship, as she was unable to prevent her village from a plague or save her mentor (presumably her teacher) from death.

During the entire season, Lilia exhibited occasional intense episodes, which left others bewildered or puzzled. However, it was quite clear that she was apparently having glimpses into the future. Consequently, there were instances where she’d make a statement and soon forget about it, or attempt to say something only to be reminded by others that she had already shared the same information before.

While Billy and Agatha journey towards their upcoming trial, Lilia and Jenny find themselves traversing an underground tunnel instead. Fortunately, they manage to avoid capture by the Salem Seven along the way.

Despite having an opportunity to leave, Lilia urges Jenny to remain, with the purpose of rescuing Agatha and Billy. Jenny consents to this plan.

Lilia tells Jenny that she thinks she’s moving between temporal openings. Sometimes she finds herself as a child again, absorbing information about her ability, and other times she’s in the 80s, utilizing a Ouija board with the coven.

After that, I found myself urging Alice against rescuing Agatha, then I was back in the tunnel. The situation left me on edge, as I struggled to keep things under control, only to find matters escalating further.

As I leap, it dawns on me that my jumps have the power to mend problems or alert others about impending dangers. It’s not about dominion, but insight.

This scenario encompasses a trial featuring Agatha, now disguised as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Billy, who has transformed himself into Maleficent, an evil fairy instead of a witch. In this test, they’re struggling, as it involves interpreting tarot cards and a ceiling adorned with swords. Once the trial starts, neither seems to grasp what’s required, with Agatha consistently making matters more complicated (as is her usual habit).

After a series of leaps, Lilia (disguised as Glinda) and Jenny (who appears to be the wicked queen transforming into an old crone), eventually catch up with them. At first, Lilia attempts to scrutinize Billy, but when swords repeatedly fall and the ceiling persistently collapses, she comprehends that she is the traveler.

Lilia should interpret her own tarot reading. As she does this, each card mirrors events from the current season, culminating in a concluding test. Ultimately, a door appears as the trial comes to an end.

During this period, viewers come to learn that Rio is not just the Green Witch, but also Death itself. Frankly, this unexpected disclosure felt strange and didn’t resonate as much, leaving many puzzled instead.

As a gamer, I’ve always sensed that Agatha was aware of the secrets hidden within The Road, yet she’d never dropped a hint. Rumors have been swirling around her, suggesting she’s never ventured down The Road or claimed its ultimate victory.

If that is the case, then why is she remembered for being the only one who ever survived The Road?

While Lilia assists everyone in exiting and warns Agatha, she stays behind to confront the Salem Seven who have pursued them. When one card is flipped over, the entire room transforms into a tower, causing the Salem Seven to plummet to their demise and impale themselves on the swords below.

This also means Lilia suffers the same fate, but she dies in order to save the others.

Another excellent episode

As an ardent admirer, I eagerly anticipated Lilia’s trial, but found myself somewhat let down. While the trial was imaginatively crafted and resulted in a poignant yet exhilarating finale, I yearned to witness the characters adorned in the splendid attire of Renaissance Italy.

Instead of being fully engaged in the era and reality that Lilia originated from, it seems everyone has opted for elaborated Halloween attire, with Billy being the sole exception who doesn’t resemble a fictitious witch figure.

Making this decision was incredibly perplexing and irritating. To add to that, Rio’s unveiling as Death felt rather underwhelming.

Initially, she seemed like an unappealing option after Agatha was liberated from Wanda’s enchantment. Her character resembled a typical, deranged former girlfriend without any distinct qualities that stood out.

Turns out, she was Death all along, wasn’t it? Quite an underwhelming disclosure, and yet another reminder of how detestable Agatha can be. It seems her skills in relationship management are equally poor.

Beyond all else, during the episode centered around Lilia, it seemed as if a captivating work of art was unfolding before our eyes. In unison with her, we were both observers and participants, attempting to unravel the mystery alongside her.

As a devoted admirer, I must say that among all the members in the coven so far, none can rival the intrigue and depth of Mrs. Hart’s background and abilities. Even after her untimely demise, it seems inevitable that each character will meet their end in the same way. Given this pattern, it appears that Jenny’s turn is coming up next, and I fear she too may suffer a similar fate.

Although it seems unlikely, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that by the finale of the series, some how or another, all characters return. Perhaps we could rewind time to a point where Agatha breaks free from her curse, enabling the coven to carry on with their lives, having made significant progress.

Sort of a Back to the Future-type ending.
