As a seasoned gamer of life with a penchant for the mystical and the magical, I must say that “Agatha All Along” is proving to be quite the intriguing journey. The fourth episode was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, twists, and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Since Mrs. Hart has passed away, our witch circle is in need of a Green Witch. However, who will step up to fill her role? In the fourth episode of Agatha All Along, a fresh witch joins the coven and they all face their upcoming test. Will they be able to overcome this challenge? Let’s discover the answer together!

If I Can’t Reach You, Let My Song Teach You

With Mrs. Hart’s passing, they come to understand that their journey must continue with a Green Witch by their side. Fortunately, one of the teens possesses a spellbook (a fact that seems unknown to the others). Gathering together, they call forth a Green Witch to join them on the road.

It’s quite clear that the Green Witch is none other than Rio Vidal, Agatha’s former girlfriend, as seen in the series premiere, and this isn’t something they would immediately recognize. With the coven now fully assembled, they journey to a house, which mysteriously transports them back in time to the 1970s.

While searching for their next challenge’s clue, Agatha and Rio find themselves in solitude inside a sound booth. Agatha subtly tries to manipulate the witches against Rio by attempting to coax a damaging confession out of her using the microphone. It is revealed that while Agatha desires all the power that comes with their journey, Rio has a sinister intent, seeking to amass bodies for some illicit purpose.

Prior to the team having a chance to interrogate Rio, the adolescent comes across a recording that starts playing backwards. The dreadful sound is so intense, they decide to destroy both the record and the player. Alice later gathers the debris, revealing it was her mother’s song. As previously mentioned, her mother had tragically perished in a fire during a tour.

Unbeknownst to us, Alice has been under a curse for many years. This malevolent force has now shifted its attention towards Jenny, Lilia, and the teenager. The situation is urgent as we must discover a means to vanquish this curse before the countdown reaches zero.

The team discovers that Alice’s mother had covered a highway anthem as her own version, using it as a safeguard for Alice. Every witch in the coven then agrees to perform this song, while confronting a gruesome, terrifying entity that attempts to prevent them.

Once the song has finished playing, the trial concludes, and the collective exits through the piano. Back on the open road, the adolescent endured silence due to a wound, but with Jenny’s assistance, he recovered. In that instant, it became apparent that Agatha values the teen more than she usually shows. However, Rio confides in her privately that he is not her child.

It’s revealed that Jenny previously worked as a midwife, but her abilities were somehow restricted or seized by the doctor she collaborated with. Despite Lilia confirming to Rio that she recalls the conversation from the recording studio, the group appears less concerned than one might expect. Furthermore, they seem equally unaware of the past relationship between Agatha and Rio. If the youth isn’t Agatha’s child, who is he, and what ordeal lies ahead for our coven next?

Taking two steps forward yet one back

Despite a consistent pace, convincing performances, and an intriguing narrative, there’s an occasional sense of something being amiss. However, I can’t quite put my finger on what it might be.

Honestly, Agatha’s history with Rio doesn’t hold much intrigue for me. I’m finding it challenging to decide if I genuinely appreciate Rio because she seems to have transformed into an entirely different person compared to her portrayal at the beginning of the season.

In my earlier comments, I expressed a preference for the show to delve deeper into Agatha’s storyline and the murder mystery, rather than releasing her from Wanda’s spell so quickly. At that time, I found the plot surrounding Rio to be much more captivating.

Currently, she’s a typical ex-girlfriend with an eccentric, almost witch-like quality that leaves me puzzled about what initially drew Agatha to her. Given each coven member has their motives, it still perplexes me how they trust Agatha, especially when it’s clear she primarily acts in her own interest and the teen’s.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say it seems like Rio might not be telling Agatha the whole truth about his parentage. But hey, let’s not jump to conclusions – it could still be true! However, based on what we’ve seen so far, it feels more likely that he’s Wanda’s son.

The magical folklore aspect of the series continues to be its standout feature, but if the upcoming episode adheres to a familiar pattern without introducing new depth, Agatha All Along will continue to be merely engaging rather than captivating.

Were you impressed by the fourth episode of season 1 of Agatha All Along? The fifth episode of the first season will be aired on October 9, exclusively on Disney Plus.
