Agatha All Along episode 2 recap: “Circle Sewn with Fate/Unlock Thy Hidden Gate”

As a long-time fan of Marvel’s magical realm, I must say that “Agatha All Along” has been a captivating rollercoaster ride so far! The second episode, titled “Circle Sewn with Fate/Unlock Thy Hidden Gate,” was filled with intrigue, suspense, and a bit of humor – much like Agatha herself.

Previously, Agatha Harkness was a potent witch, yet Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch seized her magical powers and imprisoned her within the New Jersey town of Westview. For a span of three years, Agatha resided in Westview under the guise of Agnes, oblivious to her true identity. In the first episode of Agatha All Along , Agatha ultimately uncovers her real self. But her revelation leads to trouble as she abducts a teenage boy and learns that other witches are pursuing her.

In the upcoming events for Agatha, she finds herself pursued by formidable adversaries. With her powers now absent, how will she devise strategies to safeguard herself becomes the question in episode 2 of “Agatha All Along“, titled “Circle Sewn with Fate/Unlock Thy Hidden Gate.

Spoilers from Agatha All Along episode 2 ahead!

In the second installment, Agatha hastily gathers her belongings to flee town before the Salem Seven arrive, but halts when a teenage boy (now identified as “Teen”) requests her to guide him to the Witches’ Path. Initially, Agatha feigns ignorance about the path, however, Teen challenges her claim. Teen explains that the Witches’ Path offers one’s deepest desire, but only if one successfully reaches the destination. Teen expresses his resolve to reach the end, though Agatha remains unconvinced for now.

At this point, he starts being excessively flattering. He reveals his admiration for her and mentions that he was the one who freed her from Wanda’s enchantment. This piques Agatha’s curiosity. She queries him as to why he needs her aid if he could already break the spell. The youth explains that while studying magic can get you so far, it’s only actual magical powers that allow you to perform magic. He believes that reaching the end of the Witches’ Road will bestow power upon him, which is what Agatha desires as well. However, this explanation doesn’t entirely persuade her to assist him yet.

Only after Teen reveals that the Salem Seven are pursuing her does Agatha concede. Curious, Agatha inquires about his true identity, but when he attempts to respond, his mouth is bound by enchanted thread. It seems he’s under a spell of some kind. Despite this discovery, Agatha remains silent about the situation with Teen. Instead, she consents to escort him along the Witches’ Road. However, they must first secure the assistance of a coven to gain entry onto the Road.

Initially, they visit a psychic reading store where Agatha attempts to persuade divination witch Lilia Calderu to become part of her coven and travel the Witches’ Road. At first, it appears that Lilia won’t be swayed, but then she experiences a vision involving the Three of Pentacles and begins jotting down the names of four witches required for Agatha’s coven to be complete on a sheet of paper. Since one of those names is her own, she is left with no alternative but to join forces with Agatha’s coven.

On their quest to establish a coven, Agatha and Teen will soon visit a wellness store owned by Jennifer Kale, who specializes in sorcery and potions. However, Agatha and Jennifer have a strained relationship and lack power. Desperate to persuade Jennifer to join her coven, Agatha eventually resorts to using Jennifer’s legal issues against her, which finally convinces Jennifer to join. In the coven, Jennifer takes on the role of the potion witch.

After exiting the health store, Teen informs Agatha they need to find two more witches for their group. But Agatha says one more will do to finish their coven. Teen argues against Agatha and tries to grab the list of witch names from her, but Agatha swiftly eats the list instead. The last witch on that list must be someone with whom Agatha has a grudge or bad relationship, as she doesn’t want them in her coven.

Their upcoming destination is a mall, where they aim to enlist the services of blood witch/protection witch Alice Wu-Gulliver, daughter of Lorna Wu, a formidable witch rumored to have vanished on the Witches’ Road. Eventually, they manage to persuade Alice to become part of their coven. Here’s how: They offer her the opportunity to uncover the truth about her mother’s fate if they can navigate the Witches’ Road together.

On their return journey to Westview, Agatha inquires about Teen’s origin. However, as soon as Teen starts speaking, his voice becomes unclear, leaving Agatha unable to understand him. Despite her curiosity, she chooses not to bring this up with Teen at that moment.

At Agatha’s residence, Agatha and Teen make preparations for the arrival of other witches to journey along the Witches’ Path together. However, upon their arrival, these witches start questioning Agatha about the fourth witch who is absent from the gathering. This is the witch whose existence Agatha had kept secret from Teen. They require this missing witch – the Green Witch, who specializes in earth magic – if they hope to stand a chance on the Road.

In a mysterious manner, Agatha continues to avoid reaching out to the Green Witch. Instead, she invites a fellow resident from the very first episode, the one who unintentionally struck Teen with her vehicle – none other than Mrs. Hart or Sharon – to join her coven instead.

Once most of the coven had gathered, they convened in Agatha’s basement to perform the Witches Road ballad, hoping it would create a portal. As they sang, Teen glanced out of a window and spotted the formidable Salem Seven approaching the house. Simultaneously, Agatha and her fellow witches debated about the song failing to work. As the Salem Seven entered the house, Agatha urged her coven to use their powers against them, but they declined. Instead, they continued to argue.

All of a sudden, a gateway mysteriously appears under their feet. The adolescent dashes towards the basement and calls out for everyone to hurry through the gateway promptly. He leads the way, stepping into the gateway first, with the other witches following closely behind. Now that they’ve reached the beginning of the Witches’ Road, things are about to get intriguing indeed.
