After Rosie O’Donnell’s move to Ireland, Trump tells Irish PM he’s ‘better off not knowing’ who she is

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Rosie O’Donnell announced she has moved to Ireland.

The comedian announced on a TikTok video released Tuesday that she moved with her youngest child to Ireland on January 15th. She’s currently working on obtaining Irish citizenship due to her Irish grandparents, and plans to remain abroad until “everyone, both in Ireland and America, enjoys equal rights.” Only then will they consider returning.

The action occurred barely a week prior to President Trump’s inauguration, whom O’Donnell had long sparred with and considered his adversary even before his initial election.

Back in 2006, my admiration for Donald Trump took a turn when he was accused by Rosie O’Donnell of exploiting an underage drinking scandal involving Miss USA Tara Conner to boost the popularity of the pageant. She branded him as a “snake-oil salesman” and questioned his moral integrity, referring to his marital infidelities. In response, he called her “fat” and “out of control.” Despite this, Conner managed to keep her title, while Trump threatened legal action against O’Donnell during several media appearances. Fortunately for her, no lawsuit was ever filed.

Hunter Schafer, a transgender actress, expressed surprise when she discovered that the passport issued by the Trump administration misgendered her.

They kept exchanging criticism in public, such as when Rosie O’Donnell’s show on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) was canceled in 2012. Trump then boasted on social media by saying “Rosie O’Donnell has failed again. Her ratings were terrible and Oprah decided to end her show on a Friday night. When will media executives realize that Rosie just doesn’t have the skills.”

He likewise expressed to Fox News over the phone that “Rosie is unsuccessful at everything. Her variety show flopped. … Eventually, someone else, another foolish person, will likely employ her again to do something else, and that will also fail. At some point, let her take a break. Let her retire.

In 2014, when O’Donnell rejoined “The View” for its 18th season, Trump tweeted, “Rosie is coarse, impolite, boorish and not bright – except for that, I rather enjoy her!” This was following his initial post which read, “Rosie returning to The View shows just how desperate they must be. It’s their temporary solution but a long-term catastrophe.

In 2017, following his dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, President Trump referenced an old tweet by comedian Rosie O’Donnell in which she had advocated for Comey’s firing. Trump used this as an example of something they both apparently shared an opinion on. Later that year, O’Donnell labeled the president “Adolf Trump” on social media and claimed anyone supporting or working for him was akin to being a Nazi.

Inside the bare-knuckle legal brawl between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni

The legal drama starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni focuses on contrasting perspectives regarding the strategies employed by influential celebrity lawyers when representing their high-profile clients.

During a 2015 Republican debate moderated by Megyn Kelly, she questioned Trump about his past remarks regarding women, where he had referred to them as “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.” In response, Trump clarified, saying, “Only Rosie O’Donnell,” referring specifically to her.

Over time, the comedian has consistently used social media to poke fun at Trump. Although her old Twitter account is no longer active and can’t share stories, she spoke out again on TikTok in December. This was after Time magazine named him their 2024 Person of the Year. However, she suggested alternative titles such as “Most Dangerous Man of the Year,” “Most Criminal Man of the Year,” and “The Worst President We’ve Ever Had … of the Year.

She stated, “It seemed there was no individual worthy of consideration who wasn’t that deceitful, law-breaking man? Not a single Person or Year recipient? Perhaps we should reconsider and name it ‘Human of the Year.’ It’s time to broaden our perspective, you patriarchal individuals. Oh, how exasperating this is.

On Wednesday, as Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin conferred with the U.S. President in the White House, a journalist posed the question, “What makes you think Rosie O’Donnell could relocate to Ireland?

Trump said, “I like that question!,” then asked Martin, “Do you know who she is?”

Martin did not.

“You’re better off not knowing,” the president said.

People living in Altadena and Pacific Palisades, whose homes were destroyed by fire, are progressively opting to sell their plots instead of going through the arduous task of reconstruction.

In a TikTok post, O’Donnell shared that the Irish folks have warmly received her and her 12-year-old nonbinary child, whose name was altered from Dakota (considered too feminine, as her mother explained) to Clay in recent years.

Kuma, Clay’s service dog, accompanied them too. As O’Donnell shared, “Kuma is here, thriving, and simply adores strolling along the edges of the Irish sea cliffs.” In essence, O’Donnell expressed that Kuma seems to be enjoying a blissful state.

In my personal opinion as a movie critic, I was disappointed that I didn’t have my trusty SLR camera with me during my recent overseas trip. The landscapes were breathtakingly photogenic, and while the iPhone camera does a fair job, it simply can’t compare to the quality of an SLR. Moreover, I’ve found myself diving into Substack lately as I struggle to navigate the complexities of Facebook.

O’Donnell expressed joy and so did Clay. He shared that he yearns for his other children, friends, and various aspects of life back home. His current endeavor is to establish a new home right here, in this stunning nation.

Notable figures such as Barbra Streisand, Cher, Sharon Stone, and Ellen DeGeneres expressed their intent to depart the U.S. should Trump be re-elected. Among these celebrities, it is only Ellen DeGeneres who has followed through on her promise, relocating to England with her wife Portia de Rossi following their purchase of a home in the Cotswolds prior to the 2024 election.
