As a film and TV fan, I’ve been following the ongoing conversation about LGBTQ+ representation – it’s so important to see authentic stories told on screen. Recently, things got interesting when Jordan Firstman, from I Love LA, playfully criticized the sex scenes in Heated Rivalry. It sparked a bit of a back-and-forth with Hudson Williams, who plays Shane Hollander, but thankfully they seemed to resolve it and even gave us some great content on social media along the way! Both shows are available if you have HBO Max, by the way.
The steamy romance in ‘Heated Rivalry’ is a major reason for the show’s popularity and viral success. While many appreciate seeing this kind of content featuring queer characters, not everyone is a fan – as seen in the widely shared comments from Firstman.
What Jordan Firstman Said About Heated Rivalry
I first discovered Jordan Firstman in shows like English Teacher (you can find it on Hulu!) and I Love LA, and he always stood out. What really got people talking, though, was his outspokenness online. He initially joked on social media that the intimate scenes in Heated Rivalry didn’t quite feel authentic. He recently shared more of his thoughts in an interview with Vulture, explaining his perspective on…
I was disappointed after watching the first couple episodes of Heated Rivalry. The portrayal of intimacy just didn’t feel authentic to how gay people experience sex, and it’s frustrating how rarely we see realistic depictions of it on screen.
The comments spread rapidly online, catching the attention of François Arnaud, who stars in Heated Rivalry, and prompting him to speak out. This sparked a possible disagreement between the two HBO series, gaining widespread attention. Fortunately, it appears the issue has been resolved, thanks to both the network and Nicki Minaj.
How Firstman And Hudson Williams Worked It Out In The Remix
People started to suspect a friendly relationship between the two shows when a photo of Jordan Firstman and the actor who plays Shane Hollander, Hudson Williams, surfaced online, showing them sharing a cigarette. This hinted at a possible resolution to any tension between them. They solidified this when they were seen wrapping gifts together at an HBO event and even created a fun video lip-syncing to a famous moment between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus from the 2015 VMAs. You can watch the video below!

I really enjoyed it. The back-and-forth between these two singers has provided so many memorable lines over the past ten years, and revisiting it felt like a great way to demonstrate that everyone involved with the Heated Rivalry production is on good terms.
Even while it seemed like there was a disagreement between the shows, Hudson was still telling people to check out I Love LA. Fortunately, both shows are currently available on HBO Max, so viewers can easily watch them back-to-back. Both series also include scenes with gay romance, offering a unique double feature opportunity.
The show I Love LA has just one episode left, while Heated Rivalry will conclude with two more episodes on HBO Max as part of their 2025 programming.
