John Cena’s finish in his recent WWE match has sparked debate among fans, but it’s drawing attention away from a significant achievement by his opponent, Gunther. Gunther has now defeated two wrestlers likely to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, capping off an impressive year that few others have matched. While this level of success is rare, it also feels reminiscent of similar moments in wrestling history.
With WrestleMania approaching, I’ve been thinking about what’s next for WWE’s superstars, and Gunther really stands out. It seems like the company might be planning to bring back a successful, classic wrestling character, and Gunther could be the one positioned to defeat popular wrestlers and become a dominant force.

Is Gunther The New “Legend Killer” Of The WWE?
It’s likely no accident that WWE plans to have Gunther end the careers of Goldberg and John Cena in 2025. Despite a strong year for stars like Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Roman Reigns, WWE is clearly focused on elevating Gunther and positioning him as a key figure for the future.
We might be seeing a big change in WWE’s main roster soon. With AJ Styles planning to retire around 2026 and reports suggesting Brock Lesnar will do the same, many established stars are nearing the end of their careers. It seems WWE could be using a storyline similar to Randy Orton’s old “Legend Killer” role to elevate Gunther and give these veterans a proper send-off. Could we see Gunther defeating these wrestling legends on TV in the near future?

Why I Like The Idea Of Gunther Taking Randy Orton’s Old Gimmick
It’s understandable why some fans are unsure about Gunther potentially becoming the wrestler who finishes other veterans’ careers. It’s worth remembering that when Randy Orton did this in the past, his goal was usually to embarrass or humble well-known stars like Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley, not necessarily to end their careers outright.

Hey, WWE Fans, It’s Time To Admit A Hard Truth About Survivor Series
Randy Orton became famous for his “Legend Killer” persona, during which he popularized the “RKO” move and had great matches against wrestling icons. Although Gunther currently holds a similar title, his approach feels different. However, like Orton, Gunther could end up facing a number of wrestling legends, potentially including Orton himself.
Randy Orton recently overcame concerns that back surgery might end his wrestling career, and he’s continuing to perform. He hasn’t said when he plans to retire, but he’s now at a similar age to several other wrestlers who are either retiring or are expected to retire soon.
John Cena’s farewell tour received a lot of media coverage, and Randy Orton deserves the same kind of attention from pro wrestling fans. Orton has been a major presence in WWE, consistently featured in top storylines since he started in 2002, and his retirement should be a huge event. WWE should really make a spectacle of it.
It’s rare to see such a consistently successful career in wrestling, and a match between two established stars feels like a fitting way to celebrate that. Unlike John Cena, who has a long list of past opponents, Gunther might have fewer options for his final matches, making this a perfect opportunity to build him up for a memorable send-off.
You can now watch Monday Night Raw on Netflix every Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. I’m looking forward to seeing what Gunther does next after his recent victory, and who will be his opponent as WrestleMania approaches.
