The Italian journalist who, for unknown reasons, failed to include Ayo Edebiri during a discussion about Hollywood, the Black Lives Matter, and #MeToo movements, has addressed the widely shared conversation about the interview.
On Monday, Federica Polidoro took to Instagram to express her views in response to criticism she’s faced recently. She explained that since a particular statement she made didn’t sit well with certain individuals, she has experienced harsh language, personal assaults, and online harassment – essentially, cyberbullying.

Ayo Edebiri, following her triumph at the Emmys for ‘The Bear,’ took on hosting duties for ‘Saturday Night Live.’ The show boasted performances by Jennifer Lopez, with an unexpected visit from Nikki Haley as well.
Instead of centering the conversation around the considered replies of Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts, and Andrew Garfield, the talk persists strictly about how I could have worded my question more effectively,” Polidoro penned.
The incident under discussion took place during a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, featuring Edebiri, Roberts, and Garfield. They were there to debut their movie “After the Hunt,” directed by Luca Guadagnino. In a viral video, Polidoro was captured asking Roberts and Garfield about what they believe was missed during the period of politically correct culture, and what the future of Hollywood might look like postMeToo movement and Black Lives Matter protests.
After Roberts was asked by the journalist to specify who the question was intended for, Polidoro repeated that her query was actually meant for both Roberts and Garfield. Notably, as they exchanged a glance, Edebiri raised her hand, indicating she wanted to answer on their behalf.
The actor from ‘The Bear’ admits, ‘I understand that it doesn’t seem to be something for me, and I’m not sure if it’s intended that way – yet my curiosity is piqued. However, I have a feeling it’s not quite finished yet.’

Commentary: By taming its chaos, ‘The Bear’ bravely shows us what addiction recovery looks like
Fans adored the chaotic atmosphere of ‘The Bear,’ but in Season 4, the creators aim to portray that order doesn’t necessarily suppress creativity, and sometimes, chaos can become a compulsion as well.
She goes on to suggest that hashtags may not be as prevalent as they once were, but she strongly believes that vital, unfinished work is being carried out daily by activists and individuals worldwide. This ongoing work is crucial because our world remains intensely charged, and the struggle continues. Although mainstream coverage might not be as frequent as it was eight or so years ago, she emphasizes that this doesn’t mean the fight has been won; quite the contrary, the work is far from over.
Garfield concurs, stating, ‘The actions are incredibly vibrant,’ but he adds, ‘Perhaps they’re not as specifically identified, featured, or emphasized as they once were at this particular point in time.’
In her response to allegations, Polidoro asserted that she has never been racist, citing her extensive experience of interviewing individuals from a wide variety of cultural and ethnical backgrounds throughout her two-decade long profession.
Polidoro describes her family as diverse, led by strong women, and with a background heavily influenced by immigration. She’s also known for her role as a Golden Globes voter and analyst during award seasons. In Polidoro’s opinion, it’s those who perceive racism in every situation and aim to censor journalism, suppressing analysis, critical thought, and diverse viewpoints, who truly embody racist attitudes.
It’s undemocratic to suppress or discredit questions that make people uncomfortable. The job of journalism is to explore such sensitive issues in a respectful and responsible manner.
