As a long-time Star Trek enthusiast who has witnessed the rise and fall of various series, I must say that Jolene Blalock’s return as T’Pol in Lower Decks was a delightful surprise. It felt like a reunion with an old friend after years apart. Her voice, her tone, every inflection was spot on, making it impossible to mistake her for anyone else.
Approximately twenty years have passed since Star Trek: Enterprise ended its run in 2005, and since then, actress Jolene Blalock, who portrayed Vulcan character T’Pol, has been absent from any Star Trek series or film. However, fans were pleasantly surprised when she reappeared vocally in the ninth episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks’ current season, titled “Fissure Quest.” Although credited simply as Jolene, her voice was unmistakably that of T’Pol. Every aspect, from the tone to the inflections, was pitch-perfect.
Given that Blalock has mostly been absent from Star Trek except for a brief appearance at 2021’s Star Trek Day, her comeback as a character dating back almost two decades came as a shock to many. It’s clear that this reunion, along with the return of other Star Trek characters, will likely encourage those who don’t usually watch Lower Decks to tune in and catch the episode.
Since her appearance in the 2017 television movie “A Man for Every Month,” Blalock has remained off-screen. However, her brief return to the Star Trek universe has sparked speculation among fans about her potential future roles. Could she reprise her iconic character T’Pol in another series? Or perhaps play a descendant of the character in shows like “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” due to Vulcans’ long lifespan?
It’s unclear if this brief appearance in Lower Decks hints at her potential return to the franchise, possibly on an occasional basis, but it’s undeniable that her character is still valued. Fans adore T’Pol and would eagerly embrace her return to Star Trek.
