After 8 Seasons, House Finally Reveals Its Biggest Secret About Chase!
In the course of the House series, fans often pondered which of Gregory House’s associates bore the most resemblance to him. Remarkably, it wasn’t until the eighth season that this question was finally addressed. Despite House being an exceptional character, the show would have lost its essence without the intricate mentor-mentee bond he shared with his colleagues. Foreman, Cameron, and Chase served not only as our perspective characters, helping us grasp House’s complex personality, but they were also crucial in his diagnostic journey.
Working alongside Gregory House, as portrayed by Hugh Laurie, was no ordinary apprenticeship. His character was so dominating that prolonged exposure could impact your life beyond just work. It seemed that a bit of House rubbed off on each of his associates, particularly the initial trio. This ambiguity about who would fill House’s shoes was a topic of debate among fans and the show alike. However, in the final season of House, it was definitively revealed that Chase shared the most traits with House compared to the rest.
House’s Series Finale Confirmed Chase Was House’s Real Successor
Chase Inherited House’s Department
Towards the conclusion of “Everybody Dies,” following House’s deception to be with Wilson during their friends’ last moments, we catch a glimpse into everyone’s present lives. Notably absent from the series finale were characters like Cuddy, but all original fellows from the first three seasons made an appearance in the final episode. Cameron had risen to Head of Emergency Medicine in Chicago; Foreman continued as PPTH’s Dean of Medicine, and notably, Chase took over House’s position as Head of Diagnostic Medicine.
It’s evident that Chase, being the ideal successor for House, took on his department, which was more of a playground that Cuddy created for House rather than a formal department. This suggests a strong resemblance between Chase and House in their traits. Although all of House’s associates learned from him, it can be argued that Chase absorbed these lessons the most. However, assuming the role of the “new House” was not necessarily an appealing prospect.
One cause for Cameron’s decision to end things with Chase was that he began exhibiting traits reminiscent of House, a comparison she made after the Dibala incident. Unsurprisingly, House asserted that he wasn’t responsible for their issues. Over time, Chase started showing more and more similarities to House, both in his professional conduct and as an individual. Even going back to the early seasons, Chase bore a striking resemblance to House, particularly in his ability to diagnose patients. Similar to House, Chase also knew when and how to think beyond conventional methods.
Chase Was The Perfect Doctor To Replace House As Head Of Diagnostic Medicine
Chase Was Always House’s Favorite
If a “new House” was to emerge at the end of the series, it would have had to be one of the original trio – Foreman, Cameron, and Chase – because they were the core essence of House’s character. While House’s second team and all subsequent iterations were exceptional characters that kept the show fresh, the original three had a unique understanding and connection with Gregory House. Apart from Wilson and Cuddy, these three characters knew House best.
It’s fascinating that despite the muddled timeline details presented in the show, it’s Robert Chase who worked for Dr. House the longest at the series beginning. House initially hired him due to his father, Dr. Rowan Chase, but Robert quickly proved himself and became House’s preferred assistant. Even when House unexpectedly dismissed Chase, it suggested a strange form of respect and validation, as if House was acknowledging that he had nothing more to teach him.
