The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) seems to be moving past a challenging time. Following the huge success of the Infinity Saga, which culminated in the blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios began a new phase in 2021 with several Disney+ shows. While some of those shows were popular, others didn’t quite hit the mark. Now, a new beginning is here, and fans are feeling optimistic about the future of Marvel TV.
The release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on Disney+ signals a fresh start for Marvel Studios’ television shows. This season is the first to be created completely after Marvel Studios adjusted its approach to making TV series, a change they announced in early 2025.
The making of Born Again was challenging. The original creative team was replaced during filming, and the new team had to quickly assemble a coherent first season.
The team behind the show is returning for Season 2! Dario Scardapane will once again lead the creative side, and Brad Winderbaum from Marvel Studios will be in charge of the overall production. This allows Kevin Feige to concentrate his efforts on Marvel’s movie projects.

Disney+ needed to reduce its existing content library. Starting in 2021, the streaming service released an impressive 14 seasons of live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe series – and that’s not including any special episodes or animated shows. This pullback was a direct result of Disney’s new focus on creating more original programs for the platform.
Feige himself acknowledged in September 2025 that a slowdown was “in order:”
We’re already starting to reduce the pace of production, first with TV shows and now with movies, and I believe this is a necessary step.
After some recent movies like The Marvels didn’t perform well in theaters, the studio is reportedly changing its approach. They plan to create fewer live-action TV shows and instead concentrate on self-contained stories that anyone can enjoy without needing to know a lot about what came before.
Beyond individual disappointments like Secret Invasion and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, many fans felt overwhelmed by the constant stream of new Marvel content. It began to feel less like entertainment and more like an obligation to keep up with everything being released.
Marvel is simplifying its TV strategy. They’re going back to releasing shows throughout the year, with longer, ongoing series. Daredevil: Born Again will lead the way, and Wonder Man has already been renewed for another season.
The show VisionQuest is finishing a story arc that began with WandaVision and continued in Agatha All Along.
Marvel has announced its movie plans for the next two years, including two new Avengers films and a Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie made with Sony Pictures.
Looking ahead to 2026, TV viewers can anticipate several new and returning shows, including the first season of Wonder Man, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, and the series VisionQuest. Popular animated shows like X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will also be back with new seasons.
Marvel is also working to avoid making promises they can’t keep, something many fans felt happened a lot during the recent ‘Multiverse Saga’.
A Bright Outlook for Marvel Studios
Overall, upcoming Marvel Studios movies and shows are expected to be better quality. While there have been some great successes over the years – like Thunderbolts, Deadpool & Wolverine, Loki, and WandaVision – even within the Multiverse Saga, focusing on fewer projects should give fans a reason to be excited about what’s coming next.
The new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, is expected to be a big success this summer. Its unique storyline, featuring an unexpected twist, is already generating a lot of excitement among fans.
The highly anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday, will be released on December 18th and is expected to bring together everything the Marvel Cinematic Universe has built towards. While it’s natural to be a little worried about such a massive event, the team behind it – including Kevin Feige, the Russo Brothers, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Evans – has a perfect track record in the MCU, giving fans good reason to be optimistic.
It’s been a while since the original Avengers seemingly finished their story in Endgame. The decision to bring them back for Avengers 5, instead of focusing entirely on new heroes, suggests that Marvel’s attempt to launch a new era hasn’t gone as planned. This is especially true considering recent issues, like the firing of Jonathan Majors, who was set to play Kang.
If the upcoming film Doomsday is well-received, the 2027 movie Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to be a huge hit, and will connect the current Multiverse Saga to Marvel’s future storylines.
Marvel is also planning its movie releases for 2028 and 2029, though no dates have been confirmed yet. However, new X-Men and Black Panther 3 movies are anticipated to come out in 2028.
Ryan Coogler, who won an Academy Award, is back to direct the next Black Panther film, and Jake Schreier, the director of Thunderbolts , will be heading up the new X-Men movie. This pairing of directors suggests exciting things to come.
For the next couple of years, we can expect fewer Marvel movies and shows, which hopefully means each release will be higher quality and more satisfying for fans.
