K2 Pictures announced at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday that a new animated movie is being made based on Hiroya Oku’s manga series, Gigant.
According to a report from Comic Natalie, as translated by MyAnimeList, the studio is creating its first animated project. This announcement about their adaptation of Gigant follows the recent release of Oku’s new manga, Kanrekihime, by just a few months.
The new production is an exciting addition ahead of the K2 Pictures 2026 lineup, detailed below.
Gantz Creator‘s Upcoming Gigant Anime Film Builds K2 Pictures’ Growing Roster
K2 Pictures’ first animated movie is based on Gigant, a science fiction manga by Oku published in Big Comic Superior. It’s aimed at young adult men and is known for being as bizarre as the popular series Gantz. Originally released between December 2017 and September 2021, Gigant tells the story of a high school boy who becomes friends with an adult film star who has the ability to grow to enormous size.
Even though the story is quite unusual, the manga series Gigant, which spans 10 volumes, has sold over a million copies. Seven Seas Entertainment started publishing the English translation in 2019 and finished the series with the final volume in December 2022. Now, K2 Pictures is adapting it into an anime.
K2 Pictures, launched in 2023, is quickly building a collection of films and other productions. Recently, the studio announced it successfully closed its first funding round and shared details about what’s coming next.
K2 Pictures has announced it will adapt Tatsuki Fujimoto’s popular manga “Look Back” into a live-action film, slated for release in 2026. Fujimoto is also known as the creator of “Chainsaw Man.”
K2 Pictures Confirmed to Adapt The Chainsaw Man Creator’s Next Movie Masterpiece
K2 is creating an anime anthology series based on short stories by the creator of Chainsaw Man. This collection of stories by Fujimoto is available to stream only on Amazon Prime Video, where it first launched.
This year will see the release of the live-action adaptation of Look Back, coming after the April streaming release of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc on Crunchyroll and the hugely successful release of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.
The creator of Gantz is partnering with a reliable studio to bring another one of their stories to life on the big screen. While fans wait for the Gigant movie, those unfamiliar with it can check out Hiroshi Oku’s current manga series, Kanrekihime, which is available in Big Comic Superior.
