AFLW star reveals shock family health ‘scare’: ‘She didn’t know who she was’

Moana Hope has opened up about a shocking family health scare that left her mother hospitalised.

The 37-year-old AFLW player shared an update on her mother, Rosemary’s, health on Instagram Friday, posting several short videos for her followers.

Many of you have been asking about my mother, so I wanted to let you know how she’s doing. The good news is, she’s alright, and that’s what matters most, she said.

Moana shared that her mother had a heart attack and was also diagnosed with a rare and frightening illness.

‘She also had this thing called global amnesia,’ she added.

It completely erased her memory—she had no recollection of her identity, her loved ones, or anything at all.

Moana, coming from a large family of fourteen children, mentioned she was one of the few people Rosemary still remembered.

She believed she only had two children, and she remembered me as one of them, which made me feel good.

It was incredibly frightening to watch her experience a heart attack and then suddenly develop memory loss, and we were terrified it might be permanent or caused by a stroke. We just didn’t know what was happening.

‘We just didn’t know and it was just a really scary week of the unknown.’

Moana also complimented Rosemary on how strong she was, even after the frightening health issue she faced.

Honestly, my mum is just the most amazing person. I know I’m biased, but she truly is resilient. No matter what life throws at her, she just keeps moving forward. It’s incredible to watch, and I’m so proud of her.

‘But to watch her go through that was just really f***ing scary.’

Moana publicly thanked the doctors and staff at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, then shared how deeply affected she was by her mother’s recent health crisis.

‘Not to make it about me right now, but I’m cooked,’ she said.

I’m completely drained – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Surprisingly, I’m almost looking forward to a busy day of work, just to have something else to concentrate on.

Moana finished by saying that the most important thing was that everyone was alright. She described the person as incredibly resilient – someone who could bounce back from anything – and admitted the situation had been terrifying for her.

She also posted a photo on Instagram of her mother recovering and smiling, sitting beside her loving daughter.
