Growing up, I was incredibly fortunate to be deeply rooted in my Māori heritage, as it was my mother’s lineage. This meant that our family embarked on numerous unforgettable journeys to the beautiful lands of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

‘No-one ever guesses that I’m Māori. No-one. Ever.’

Bec mentioned that her grandpa owns a sprawling farm in New Zealand, where they often savor the unique experience of hāngī – an indigenous method of cooking food beneath the ground.

She mentioned that her grandfather owns a large farm, and whenever we visit, we gather all the uncles, aunts, and sometimes even more family members for a feast cooked in an earth oven, or a hāngī.

In her extensive conversation with Stellar, Bec likewise discussed her humble origins as a member of the working class to the publication.

Growing up, money was scarce and every penny mattered greatly, which instilled in me an immense respect for the sustenance I ate, the roof over my head, and the possessions I held dear.

Kerry and Hugh separated early in Bec’s childhood, but remain close friends.

In a conversation with the Herald Sun, Rebecca mentioned that when they relocated, their mother was sixteen years old and their father was twenty-two. She described them as behaving more like children at the time.

‘I look back and think, ”I can’t believe they were ever together”,’ Bec added.

Beck is married to ex-AFL player Chris Judd, and together they are parents to four kids: Oscar (age 14), Billie (age 11), and identical twins Darcy and Tom (both 8 years old).
