AFL stars call Bailey Smith and his ‘missus’ Tammy Hembrow the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce of the league – amid major confusion about the state of their relationship

It’s unclear exactly what’s going on with Bailey Smith and Tammy Hembrow’s relationship, but many of Smith’s fellow AFL players are already treating them like the league’s biggest celebrity couple.

A recent Instagram video from GQ Australia showed people at the Brownlow Medal event being asked which couple-a player’s wife or girlfriend (WAG) and a footballer-they think are the league’s version of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

A couple of names that immediately came up in recent conversations – Bailey and Tammy – were quickly mentioned by some big names in the sports world, including Carlton’s Patrick Cripps and Finn Callaghan from GWS. It’s always fun to see who’s on everyone’s radar!

‘Probably Bailey Smith and his missus,’ Patrick quipped when asked about the A-list pair. 

Finn seemed to think Bailey Smith was likely responsible for Tammy Hembrow being there, saying, ‘I’m guessing it was him, right?’

The 24-year-old Geelong player didn’t bring the 31-year-old influencer as his date to the popular awards show.

Tammy surprised everyone by announcing on Instagram that she was taking scuba diving lessons, rather than attending the AFL’s awards night with the football player as some people had expected.

Tammy shared a photo of the medical questionnaire she was required to fill out before her lesson. 

‘Ya girl is getting scuba certified catch me in the ocean for the rest of my life x,’ she wrote.

People were disappointed on social media when Bailey, who is rumored to be dating her, went to the Brownlow Medal count alone on Monday.

‘I’m so mad at him,’ one person wrote while another said: ‘She’s too busy scuba diving.’

‘She was never going with that loser,’ a third wrote while another simply added: ‘Disappointing.’

Bailey suited up for the occasion in an all-black ensemble, looking dapper in a tuxedo and bow tie.

He let his blonde hair fall naturally around his shoulders and finished the look with a stylish pair of sunglasses, often described as ‘speed dealer’ style.

Okay, so the awards show happened *right* after Bailey finally talked about his relationship with her! I was losing it! He was on KIIS FM with Kyle & Jackie O on Monday, and he just… admitted it! It was everything. The awards were amazing, but honestly, it was all a blur because I was still reeling from hearing him confirm they’re together!

Okay, so I’m setting the record straight – there’s absolutely no romance between me and Tammy. We’re just friends, and honestly, all the rumors have been a bit much! You won’t be seeing her on my arm at the Brownlow Medal count either. Despite all the speculation, it’s just a friendly relationship, and I’m looking forward to enjoying the night on my own.

Kyle Sandilands asked, “What’s happening between you and Tammy? Are you going out with her tonight?”

Bailey explained that he hadn’t been trying to impress her. He didn’t want to talk about football all night because she wasn’t interested, and he wanted to make it clear they were just friends.

‘So, you guys aren’t exclusive or boyfriend and girlfriend?’ co-host Jackie Henderson questioned.

Bailey confirmed: ‘No, we’re just mates.’

The AFL star then revealed he was taking his jiu-jitsu instructor to the annual awards night.
