As a dedicated follower of their journey, it is heart-wrenching to witness the resilience and courage displayed by Jeremy Finlayson and his wife Kellie. Their story is a testament to the indomitable human spirit that refuses to be broken, even in the face of adversity as daunting as stage four bowel and lung cancer.

Jeremy Finlayson, a notable figure in Australian Football League (AFL), along with his wife Kellie, who is battling cancer, have chosen to put their home in Adelaide up for sale due to her ongoing illness.

The well-known sports figure from Port Adelaide and his social media-savvy spouse, who are both 28 years old, disclosed that they plan to sell their residence to acquire one better equipped for at-home care for Kellie.

‘This was to be our forever home, but I guess life had other plans,’ Kellie told Adelaide Now.

‘Though it was quite pleasant, we found out that due to the number of people required nearby and the space necessary for our equipment and machinery, we actually needed a larger area to accommodate everything comfortably.’

The dynamic duo is moving to a more fitting residence in Adelaide, together with their daughter Sophia. Meanwhile, Kellie bravely fights stage four bowel and lung cancer.

I’m struggling to keep going each day. Yet, despite having all the reasons to give up and complain, it seems futile.

After being diagnosed with both bowel and lung cancer in November 2021, following the birth of their daughter Sophia, the social media influencer has been fighting against these health issues.

After my initial stage 3 diagnosis, I faced a challenging journey that led me through multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatments as it progressed to stage 4.

In January, Kellie began another six-month course of chemotherapy, but later decided to halt both her chemotherapy and radiation sessions, opting instead for a more natural approach with holistic treatments and alternative medicines.

In June, she affirmed that it was probable she’d need to restart chemotherapy treatments to swiftly control any additional cancer growth.

‘Due to the rapid growth characteristic of cancer, particularly recurring cancer, even a minimal growth of less than a millimeter observed in scans over a couple of months indicates aggressive growth. This implies immediate action is required.’ (Paraphrased from original sentence)

Typically, I leave a consultation with my oncologist feeling reassured that we’ll just monitor the situation. However, things are different today; it’s not about waiting and watching anymore.

Next week, I’ll be visiting a surgeon and a radiation therapist. The aim is to explore all available treatment paths before possibly resuming chemotherapy.

Kellie shared that while her treatments successfully slowed the growth of her cancer, they took away 100% of her first year as a mother to Sophia. Now, she’s confronted with the possibility that she may not be able to have more children in the future.

Similarly, Jeremy Finlayson, a standout player for Port Adelaide, admitted that the turbulence over the past few years negatively affected him personally and negatively impacted his performance in football.
