AFL legend Shane Crawford teases shock new career move with backing of soapie star James Stewart after Dancing With The Stars
Having spent decades in the entertainment industry myself, I can certainly appreciate the allure of treading the boards once more, especially when it comes to a beloved Australian institution like Home and Away. As a man who’s been around the block a few times, I find the stoic type appealing – not too much acting, not too much talking. Just let me be, and I’ll do my thing.
Shane Crawford hints at an unexpected shift in Hollywood’s entertainment industry following his departure from Dancing with the Stars.
49-year-old AFL icon, along with popular players Ben Cousins and Adam Dovile, were eliminated together in an intense triple elimination on Sunday evening.
Although James Stewart, a star on the show “Home and Away” who was competing against them on the dancefloor, took on a supportive role and acted as a guide for the other male contestants, as reported by Crawford.
James shared acting tips with me, as well as Ben Cousins and Adam Dovile, according to what he shared with Daily Mail Australia.
“‘Shane offered this tip if someone is trying to impress the camera: ‘This is the approach you should take.’ He had thoroughly researched every dance and past performances, making him an excellent resource for information,” Shane explained.
I was greatly fond of it, to such an extent that by the conclusion, he expressed, “I will secure a role for you in Home and Away.”
In 2016, James, an actor from Australia’s longest-running soap opera who is now in a romantic relationship with his co-star Ada Nicodemou, offered a one-way plane ticket to Summer Bay (the setting of the soap opera) to a footballer as a proposal.
‘At first I said I don’t think I’m up for it,’ Crawford said.
After mulling over the offer, Crawford said he’d take up the role with a few conditions.
‘But I told him, “If you can write me in as a character that I might be familiar with, such as a football coach of some style, then I’m in!”‘
If he doesn’t overact or talk excessively, suggesting a reserved demeanor, I don’t have any concerns about him.
For more than three decades, the television series “Home and Away” has catapulted several talented actors such as Heath Ledger, Chris Hemsworth, and Isla Fisher into stardom in Hollywood’s glamorous world.
Notable celebrities have been dropping by Irene’s Diner for brief appearances since 1988. Some of these famous faces include John Farnham, Sia, Ian Thorpe, Lleyton Hewitt, Ed Sheeran, Jessica Mauboy, Atomic Kitten, and Matt Shirvington and Natalie Barr from Sunrise.
Producers rarely allow outsiders on set of the Seven soap, keeping the circle tight.
Following numerous entertaining years on Channel Nine’s The Footy Show and embarking on diverse entertainment projects, Crawford felt it was the perfect moment to grace the spotlight once more by dancing back into prominence.
However his last acting experience was not met with widespread acclaim.
In the 2022 production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Crawford’s portrayal of the cheerful Pharaoh in the musical was heavily criticized by Melbourne’s theatre community. They argued that his role took away chances from younger actors.
Regarding Dancing With the Stars, Crawford expressed that it didn’t matter to him whether they were giggling at him or with him. What truly made him content was if viewers could pay attention for a brief moment and remark, “He gave it a try, didn’t he?” That’s all I needed.
I have four adolescent sons, and we’re at that stage where they prefer to avoid activities that might make them feel embarrassed. I must admit, I’ve been guilty of causing such awkward moments for them in the past.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but admire the grace and humility of the retired athlete who danced with the incredible Ash-Leigh Hunter. After our loss, he didn’t hesitate to express heartfelt gratitude towards his dance partner, showering her with thanks that flowed as freely as the rhythm in their dance.
He expressed respect for anyone brave enough to try something new, using his recent attempts at salsa dancing as an example, in a playful comparison to Australian Olympic break dancer Raygun.
He stated that everyone dislikes constructive criticism, yet it’s inevitable for everyone. He added his hope that his sons weren’t given too harsh a time about it in school.
On Tuesday evenings, salsa dancers gracing the dancefloor at Merivale’s The Establishment served as Crawford’s inspiration for the number.
The father of four expressed his delight in frequently observing Sydneysiders dance, finding them seemingly happy and enjoying themselves.
As a seasoned dancer who’s been tapping my toes to rhythm for years, I’ve always valued mastering techniques, but during my salsa performances, my primary objective was creating an infectious vibe that made both the live audience and those watching at home feel like they were sharing in the pure joy of the dance. It’s not just about executing perfect moves; it’s about evoking the exhilaration I felt when I first discovered salsa – the sensation that this person is genuinely having a blast!
In the upcoming finale on Monday evening, Lisa McCune, Ant Middleton, James Stewart, Nikki Osborne, and Samantha Jade will compete to win the Mirrorball trophy on Dancing With The Stars.
