AFL Legend Jimmy Bartel’s Luxury Car Stripped of Wheels Amid Rising Thefts in Port Phillip
Jimmy Bartel, a previous AFL star, is now compelled to travel by public transportation because audacious thieves made off with the wheels of his vehicle.
Last week, during a chat with Jacqui Felgate on the Rumour File, the 41-year-old footballer disclosed that the incident happened during his recent vacation.
He told Jacqui that he took the streetcar instead of driving today since it’s usually convenient, but unfortunately, his car had its wheels stolen, so he couldn’t drive.
If only I were Fred Flintstone, able to lift my car and dash here to work, he humorously added.
Jimmy pointed out that the robbers made no effort to conceal their actions; instead, they audaciously left behind the car jacks which had supported his Mercedes-Benz at the crime scene.
Jimmy shared, “Approximately a week past, I was enjoying my vacation. Suddenly, I received a call from the police.
Every time, a hint of anxiety arises within me, and they’d ask, “Is this your vehicle?” To which I respond affirmatively, saying, “Yes, it is mine.
It seems you won’t be taking your car for a long drive, as there are no wheels remaining. Even the large jacks were abandoned, and it was simply left on the road.
Upset by Jimmy’s recent news, Jacqui mentioned that crimes like this have been increasingly common in the city of Port Phillip, where Jimmy lives.
‘This is a disgrace!’ Jacqui said.
In the city of Port Philip, it seems that some individuals have been sneakily removing car panels and wheels while parked on the streets.
Jimmy anecdotally confirmed Jacqui’s claims, admitting that a few neighbours had also been victims.
‘I think it’s a bit of – like a video game they’re almost playing – build your own car,’ he said.
A short walk away, they grabbed a barbecue grill; a little further down, they removed the doors from another car.
Jimmy stated that he wasn’t upset with the thieves, instead, he had accepted that thefts were a common occurrence when residing in Melbourne by the year 2025.
‘It’s kind of funny, he said.
Today someone asked me, “What are your feelings?” To which I replied, “I feel much like a parent might, not angry, but rather feeling a sense of disappointment instead.
‘It’s just where we’re at,’ he added.
In the period spanning from March 2023 to March 2024, the city of Port Phillip recorded a total of 2,148 incidents involving broken-into cars and missing items, as stated by Victoria Police.
This total included 468 incidents in Port Melbourne, 412 in St Kilda, and 410 in South Melbourne.
According to the Police intelligence, it appears that the majority of individuals involved in car theft are not from our local area. A relatively small group within our community may be under the misconception that they have the right to take things that do not belong to them, as expressed by Port Phillip Local Area Commander, Inspector Brett Coloe.
The news comes after Jimmy revealed he was the victim of a pesky parcel pinching thief in December.
On 3AW Breakfast, it was revealed that Jimmy’s neighborhood had unfortunately become the target of a thief – a woman who had been secretly taking home-delivered packages from fellow residents.
As an over-the-moon sports enthusiast, I can’t help but share this thrilling tale of my recent adventure with my boys, Aston, the wise eight-year-old, and Henley, the energetic six-year-old. We embarked on a journey to witness a riveting basketball game!
During that period, an intruder slipped into the yard and started searching through containers, however, he was met by his companion, Amelia Shepherd.
On our way to catch an NBL game, my two sons and I were about 30 meters from home when I understand she saw us leaving the house. Instead of staying indoors, she walked up to our front porch and started rummaging through some boxes right away,” he explained.
Fortunately, the containers were vacant. When my partner arrived home and answered the door, they asked politely, “Pardon me, may I assist you?
Jimmy cautioned the thief, letting her know that should this behavior persist, he would reveal her actions to his 111,000 Instagram followers.
If you take something else, I’ll share your picture across various social media platforms as a warning, Jimmy emphasized firmly.
In April 2023, Jimmy shared the news about the birth of his daughter Paloma, whom he has together with his partner Amelia, on social media.
In October 2022, the couple shared the exciting news that they were expecting a baby girl at a private gathering, which took place a few months following their first wedding anniversary.
Previously, Jimmy was in a marriage with Nadia Bartel, and together they have children named Aston and Henley. However, their relationship ended in the middle of 2019.
Nadia and Jimmy tied the knot in February 2014 in a lavish ceremony on the Bellarine Peninsular.
In 2008, they crossed paths for the first time during the Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix. Four years down the line, it was in Mexico where Jimmy popped the question.
Fashionista Nadia, 39, is currently enjoying a high profile romance with boyfriend Peter Dugmore.
