AEW’s aging main event scene is becoming a problem
In simple terms, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) boasts an impressive array of talented wrestlers, which is why the phrase “AEW is where the best wrestle” is often used and well-received. However, there’s a rising worry about AEW’s main events. The issue is that the competition for the AEW World Championship is becoming increasingly dominated by older performers. While AEW has some exceptional young talent, relying too heavily on veteran names might not be wise.
Jon Moxley plays a crucial role in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), often being relied upon by Tony Khan to take charge when needed or cover for other wrestlers in case of emergencies. His exceptional performance has earned him this significant position on the roster. Regrettably, his title reign isn’t thriving as expected, and it’s not entirely his fault. The discussion should also consider the advanced age of many other performers in his vicinity.
Initially, we have a man recognized as Cope. His real name is Adam Copeland and at present, he’s slated to confront Moxley. It’s intriguing since one might wonder why a person who’s only been with the company for under a year would suddenly become its staunch advocate.
Things start to look increasingly challenging as the story unfolds, given that the person facing Cope is none other than the current Ring of Honor World Champion, Chris Jericho – a man who, at fifty-four years old, continues to hold multiple titles and maintains a consistent presence on television each week.
First, let me introduce Christian, the victor of the Casino Gauntlet Battle Royal held at All-In. With his win, he earns an instant opportunity to challenge for the AEW World Championship whenever he chooses. By the way, Christian happens to be a rather seasoned player, turning 51 years old.
To kick off the new year, AEW is launching a significant streaming agreement with a headlining act that currently features three men aged 50. This is the same company that boasts powerhouses such as Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, Swerve Strickland, and many others who should consistently be in the main event spotlight. And this barely scratches the surface of their talent pool. Rising stars like MJF, Ricky Starks, Buddy Matthews, Darby Allin, Daniel Garcia, and more are right on the cusp. AEW fans adore the company because it offers a genuine alternative to WWE. However, scheduling the main event around Copeland, Jericho, Christian, and Moxley doesn’t seem to uphold that claim.
In response to criticisms, AEW has effectively adapted its strategies on several occasions. To maintain a sense of novelty and build a strong future, it’s time to move focus away from veteran wrestlers towards the rising stars who could serve as the cornerstone of the company.
