AEW does not need Shane McMahon in any form
As a longtime wrestling enthusiast who’s seen it all, from the Attitude Era to the Ruthless Aggression period, and now the Revolution of AEW, I can confidently say that Shane McMahon has no place in All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
An image speaking volumes doesn’t necessarily silence eloquent speech, even if it’s colorful language. The snapshot of Tony Khan and Shane McMahon shaking hands ignited a frenzy in the wrestling community on Wednesday morning, according to WrestleTalk and Fightful. This sparked discussions among fans about what Shane McMahon joining AEW could entail. While some speculate that AEW followers might resist this idea, it’s generally believed that All Elite Wrestling is robust enough without Shane McMahon.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve got to admit, the idea of Christian Cage giving Shane McMahon his due for the sins of old man Vince is just too amusing to ignore! It’d be fascinating to see how they’d tackle that angle, given that Cage is killing it with his heel persona in pro wrestling right now. But let’s keep it real – we don’t need a full-blown match or lengthy storylines. Just give us the crowd-pleasing moment and then move on to the next exciting chapter.
But the reality is that McMahon should not be anywhere near All Elite Wrestling.
Initially, Vince, Shane’s father, is involved in a legal dispute with Janel Grant. Although a person’s family should not necessarily affect their own professional standing, there’s a sense of uncertainty when considering Shane for promotion due to this association. As the legal case unfolds, potential negative publicity could arise from being associated with the McMahon family. Therefore, it might be prudent to keep distance from the family name until the entire issue is resolved to avoid any potential backlash.
Let me rephrase that for you: Secondly, when was the last occasion McMahon participated in a wrestling creative that received positive feedback? He was often criticized for organizing one of the worst Royal Rumble matches in recent history. He was frequently put in roles that other wrestlers should have had, but his family name gave him opportunities that were unavailable to others. AEW doesn’t need to feature him on television to free up time from a congested roster, where many wrestlers are underutilized.
Thirdly, some believe McMahon could be beneficial for business behind-the-scenes, given his background. This belief stems from the fact that he established Ideanomics in 2004, a company that was subsequently delisted by Nasdaq in July 2024. While his connections in wrestling might help AEW, there are those who think the company can secure those opportunities without McMahon’s involvement.
Tony Khan, much like countless others worldwide, is passionate about professional wrestling. However, what sets him apart is his financial means, enabling him to shape an organization according to his preferences. Yet, All Elite Wrestling doesn’t require Shane McMahon in any capacity.
