AEW Blood & Guts 2024 should have went to the women's division

As a long-time fan of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), I have to admit that I’m underwhelmed by the buildup to the upcoming five-on-five battle between Team AEW and The Elite on July 24. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for the carnage to come, but this storyline just doesn’t compare to what’s happening in the women’s division right now.

On July 24, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is preparing for an exciting installment of Dynamite. This night will feature a five-on-five clash between Team AEW and The Elite. Despite the anticipated action, this lead-up has been underwhelming for some due to several factors. It’s a missed opportunity to showcase the women’s division, which currently has a more intriguing storyline that could have generated more buzz.

Swerve Strickland is joining forces with Mark Briscoe, The Acclaimed, and Darby Allin for an upcoming match against The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, “Hangman” Adam Page, and Jack Perry. Although there are underlying stories among these wrestlers, the excitement leading up to this event isn’t as intense as some previous ones. The narrative surrounding The Elite seems like a repetitive authority figure plotline that has been used frequently in professional wrestling. At present, it fails to resonate strongly with fans and, aside from Swerve and Hangman or Kazuchika Okada’s segments, the storyline lacks intrigue.

As a longtime fan of professional wrestling and a follower of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), I’m beyond excited about the current state of their women’s division. In my opinion, the storyline between Mariah May and Toni Storm has been the most captivating in the company since last year. The recent turn towards violence between these two rivals is only adding fuel to the fire, building up to what I believe will be an unforgettable match at All-In.

It’s simple for teams with the necessary skills to form for such a significant clash. Mariah May might reunite with her past “love” Mina Shirakawa for this purpose. Additionally, Purrazzo and Statlander could be likely teammates. Kamille, who has not yet made her AEW debut despite being reportedly signed with the company, could make a surprising appearance on the team as well.

The women’s team led by Storm might consist of Nightingale, Rosa, possibly Serena Deeb, and potentially Nyla Rose. This division is rich in talent, and the company could consider recruiting from Stardom to add a new member capable of challenging Shirakawa’s presence. Various combinations are possible for forming this team.

The men’s match is expected to be lively with crowds rooting loudly. But the excitement and intensity in the AEW women’s division are off the charts, surpassing that of the men’s matches at present. It would have been fitting for them to get a major spectacle like Blood and Guts as their moment to shine.
