Adult Swim renews Rick and Morty through season 12, inching towards "a hundred years"

As a dedicated fan who has followed Rick and Morty since its inception, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the news of five more seasons. I remember the days when we eagerly awaited each new episode like a child on Christmas morning. And now, with a grand minimum of 12 seasons ahead, it feels like an endless holiday!

According to The A.V. Club, Adult Swim revealed at New York Comic Con that they’re extending animated comedy series “Rick and Morty” for two additional seasons. This is on top of the three seasons they have yet to produce following the previous order for more episodes. In other words, we can expect a total of five more seasons of “Rick and Morty,” pushing the minimum number of seasons to 12 in the future.

As a passionate gamer (and TV series enthusiast), let me tell you, Rick and Morty has quite a collection of episodes stacked up – enough to make any show feel like it’s on an endless adventure! Yet, it’s no secret that this quirky animated series is a major hit for Adult Swim, and they seem to believe the investment is paying off. For your information, the series is currently taking a break between its seventh and eighth seasons. If Adult Swim maintains their current pace, we might be following Rick and Morty’s escapades all the way up to 2030!

I strongly support this viewpoint. I stopped following “Rick and Morty” around its third season, which coincided with its peak cultural influence. It was during this period when some overenthusiastic fans took a joke from the series too literally and caused a disturbance at McDonald’s, bringing shame upon themselves, the show, and America. After that incident, “Rick and Morty” lost some of its popularity but continued to air.

Previously, I found myself with an extra hour on hand and was searching for something to stream. I noticed that several new seasons of the show “Rick and Morty” had been released since my last interest in it. I pondered if the series was still worth watching. Indeed, it is, mostly. The humor remains fast-paced, the creators continue to inventively reimagine classic sci-fi tropes, and Rick, a cynical, elderly genius, along with his clueless grandson Morty, continue to make for an amusing duo.

Despite facing a recent scandal involving its creator, Justin Roiland, who was let go due to domestic violence allegations, Rick and Morty has managed to maintain its quality throughout its run. With Dan Harmon and Scott Marder now taking on showrunning duties, and Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden voicing the titular characters, the series seems to have benefited from the addition of fresh talent. Upon revisiting the show over a couple of months, I found no discernible change in quality, if anything, it may have improved.

At NYCC, Harmon expressed that everyone prefers a universe with Rick and Morty present. Luckily, there are endless possibilities for where they can travel next.

I couldn’t be prouder to have taken this baton pass of a lifetime during Rick And Morty’s fourth season and get us to Season 10. Getting to go beyond that now is such a gift I can’t wait to give our fans. Rick And Morty– a hundred years – forever!

Eh, good for them. The eighth season of Rick and Morty will likely air sometime in 2025.
