His unapologetic approach to storytelling is reminiscent of the rebellious spirit that once swept through the world of cinema, breaking the mold and pushing boundaries.
At the premiere of “The Brutalist” during the Venice Film Festival on Sunday, Adrien Brody and his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, appeared deeply affectionate.
In 2019, the 51-year-old American actor and the 48-year-old English fashion designer, who were in a relationship, were seldom found further than a few inches from each other.
In a stunning, deep blue gown adorned with jewels and cascading to the ground, Harvey Weinstein’s former wife, Georgia, gracefully dressed herself.
The dress featured wide, cape-like sleeves and varied in transparency from opaque to see-through, accentuating Georgia’s silhouette by narrowing at the waist.
Adrien’s movie, “The Brutalist,” narrates the three-decade journey of Laszlo Toth, a Hungarian-Jewish architect and survivor of the Holocaust.
Also starring are Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, and Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
For the premiere, Adrien wore a black suit with a black shirt and bowtie.
He wore shiny black shoes and dressed up his look with an eye-catching silver broach.
Additionally, Georgia adorned herself with silver accessories, sporting elegant earrings, rings, and topping off her ensemble with stylish silver platform shoes.
Adrien mentioned that he instantly connected with his character and the plot on a deep, personal level.
Sylvia Plachy, a Hungarian immigrant and renowned photographer, escaped during the 1956 anti-Soviet revolution and came to America to pursue her dreams of becoming an artist. This was her mother in actual life.
Brody expressed that, despite being fictional, the experience feels incredibly genuine to him. This authenticity is crucial for him to effectively bring a character to life.
The 215-minute film titled “The Brutalist,” including a 15-minute break, made its debut in Venice with a great deal of anticipation. It was screened in the 70mm format.
With sunglasses shielding his eyes, Brady spoke with emotion about the movie he had labored on tirelessly for a span of seven years.
Brady stated, “This movie breaks all the rules we’re supposedly not supposed to follow,” he continued, dismissing discussions about its length as unnecessary or trivial.
‘I’ve read great novellas, I’ve read great multi-volume masterpieces,’ Brady said.
‘Maybe the next thing I make will be about 45 minutes, and I should be allowed to do that. … As Harmony Korine once said, cinema is stuck in the birth canal. And I agree with him.’
Brady wrote the script with his wife Mona Fastvold, who is also a filmmaker. Brady thanked the Venice Film Festival for supporting him.
