Ashley Walters, known for his role in the series Adolescence, believes his latest project will encourage important discussions about male abuse victims. After gaining recognition from his part as DI Luke Bascombe in a Netflix show, Walters now leads the short film Echoes. The film also features Leo Gregory (from EastEnders) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), who is also a producer on the project.
The actor from Top Boy, who recently appeared alongside Stephen Graham and rising star Owen Cooper in Adolescence, thinks the new series Echoes could become just as popular as a Netflix hit.
The short film, directed by Alex Lanipekun, tells the story of two men grappling with the long-term effects of abuse they suffered while at boarding school. After a screening at Soho House in London, actor Walters, who plays the main character Andre, shared how deeply meaningful the project is for everyone involved.
“It means a lot to us because of the content and the meaning,” he shared.
It can be really tough to deal with mental health issues, and many people find it hard to discuss them. Films like this one play a valuable role in starting conversations and helping those who are struggling feel less alone.

The short film also features Emmett J Scanlan (from MobLand) as their cruel teacher, alongside Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits), Kenyah Sandy, and George Harrison. It was produced by Rebel Island, the production company of Nathalie Emmanuel.
